WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

A 6 in quordle is brilliant!

I don't often do quordle but when I do, I am more likely to get an 8. It's a very rare day I can get it down to 6.

Today's wordle. This gave me a good laugh.

After my first word, the field was wide open. Off the top of my head, I could think of at least 15 different words and I am sure there were many more.

So I abandoned my usual second word and started trying to sort out the location of the vowels, without great success.

Word #3 uncovered a consonant and #4, I tried

As soon as I saw the results, all became clear.

😂I do believe my granddaughter would have solved this in one!🤣

Her favourite starter.

#5, I almost believe they must have been reading our comments from the other day. At least I knew one word that it was NOT likely to be, they surely wouldn't repeat that shocker so soon.😂

The answer to #4 jumped out at me after the first 2 turns but I had a very unsettled moment when I tried it as I wasn't sure if Americans would spell it that way or leave out one of the vowels in their usual fashion. But I couldn't think of anything else it could be so I just went with it.

This one caused me to write out various combinations of letters for at least 20 minutes. I used my usual starter, but the all yellow result was frustrating.

MESHY <- At least I pinned down that “e”. That helped tremendously.
ZEBRA

I could somewhat see the shape - the R could be the start or the end, but my gut was suggesting otherwise. The A was either 4th or 5th letter. This is where I tried out various letter combinations and eventually decided to try ZEBRA - following gut instinct again .

My score had the benefit of guessing a word on row 2. It was only one solution later that I stumbled to a halt and needed an eliminator.

If I’d played SPOIL, I’d have been in a pickle. But there’s no shame in a 4-row result if that’s what it takes. I keep telling myself that!

TRACE seemed to give a woeful return… but together with my eliminator, it let me guess 4L based on what must be present due to what wasn’t there.

This turned out to be very satisfying in the flow of guesses.

I was lucky with 2R; it could have been SLOPE.

The final word - 1L - could have been SULKY; gut instinct led me to try the double letter option first.

Today's ooctordle was an interesting one. I was reminded of a couple of days ago when you mentioned how many letters were repeated in words. This had quite a few like that too.

In fact, it is what put me off at the end.

I was looking at #1 and thought, is it the double letter or not? Surely not again, so I will go with the other word. I was wrong.

Spoiler

Actually, I had had the same sort of moment with #7 where I wondered-puppy or guppy, but luckily went with puppy.
