WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

It’s daunting when the starter gives so little. My eliminator was a good choice, and there wasn’t any doubt about the answer after that.

Jellied eel in a jar!

I had a 1 in 3 chance with the final word, and my first choice was unlucky. Grrrrr.

These made me laugh, they bring back memories.

OMG I never thought of eider. I would have been beside myself if I had known there was yet another one!

And I recall thinking of the other two words but thinking (hoping) waxer was more unlikely.

In this game though, you never know, not for sure.

This gave me heaps of trouble. Heaps.

I looked at it and all I could think of was align. I could see it was wrong, absolutely not possible, but I couldn't get it out of my head.

I was sorely tempted to just go for a couple more eliminators because patience isn't always my virtue but I sat back and felt too embarrassed to, because after all, I had 4 of the letters. Plus the starting letter.

How hard can it be, I wondered. Took me about 5 minutes though.😩

I felt that I was going along okay for a while. But then about half way through, I felt I needed another eliminator.

Spoiler
I had grove and broke written down as possibilities for #6 and vigil or civil as likely for #3. Plus I thought #7 might be lefty but it seemed an odd sort of word for octordle.
So I used gravy as eliminator.
This is where I made a big mistake.  I was excited to see grove was cut out of the possibilities for #6 and immediately wrote in broke, which I should have seen was also not possible as gravy had shown there was no R. As soon as I saw the results, I knew what it had to be, but too late, should have been more careful!

I loathe that “lefty” word and almost went for “felty”, but I remembered lefty being used before, so that is what I played. Disappointingly it was right.

SURER - It caused me a few moments of trying to force SUPER into being the answer (mentally), although I knew it wasn’t because the solution had no P.

Although my eliminator didn’t give me any additional letters, it ruled out many solutions. It was enough for me to take a stab at it on row 3.

I’d ruled out caulk, nacho, macho, magic, basic, antic, etc. Wacky and sumac and ducal and scuba were among those still in the running, as well as various plurals which I discounted. I just had to make a guess; it came down to dumb luck.
