I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.
I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education ๐คฃ
I had a traumatic day yesterday with regards to wordle. Well, with all my games actually.
I have a new phone (yes, I know, took a while... but nothing happens overnight with me)
I feel more at home with my old one. I was not home yesterday so tried t play with my old phone, which has been working okay here at home, only for it to tell me no internet connection (no sim).
So I had to use my new phone.
It took me 6 to solve it. I had absolutely no idea how to post it though, just even sorting out how email works on that thing is evil. My samsung was much more like a computer.
Wordle I could do though. The absolute trauma for me is that I can't switch my candy crush account over to the new phone. I have had trouble with this account before, it sort of semi detached from facebook years ago and won't play on the computer either, only on the samsung phone. The problem is I am up to a level well into the 7000s and I have accumulated over 3,200 gold bars. To put this in perspective, my sister is up to level 5000+ but no gold bars (not sure how that is possible but sis in law only has a couple too). So I don't want to have to start over again. The system just won't recognise my passwords. My daughter in law, who is tech savvy, can't work it out either.
I was convinced it would most likely be begun, although rerun was a possibility (a lower one, I thought). They were the only 2 I could think of, offhand, though I wondered if there were other answers out there I had not thought of, there usually are!
Almost every other square I looked at, I could see multiple choices.
I could solve 5 and I was pretty sure of 6 but not quite game to go for it so I used an eliminator-curdy. Quite helpful. But I fell on the last hurdle. I had #1 down as most likely either funny or funky and I went for funny but I had a bad feeling and sure enough...
Octordle tried to fool me with its use of repeat vowels and the way in which its words staggered the order of letters differently between each block.
I canโt say that my starter was much help. My eliminator was of limited use but I could guess one word at least, and solving that gave me another wordโฆ but all along the way thereafter, it seemed, there was an element of guessing.

alien/shout/cadgy/saucy. Just as well I did, as the answer would not have been my first choice.
4 is still fine. Itโs easy to forget how satisfactory a result it is if we mostly solve Wordle in 3.
Have you tried the โforgot passwordโ option for Candy Crush? Maybe it will let you reset the password on your new phone. Relinquishing those stats would be awful.

So much depends on the first and second words used; the right starter and eliminator make all the difference. I ring the changes with my eliminator quite often, based on the letters revealed by my starter.
But even then, one can be unlucky. The best result possible may well be in the 60s. I can see the traps that Octordle lay, and yesโฆ evil!
Once you start thinking about what is likely to follow that letter in green, and what is ruled out, and then taking into account what letter cannot precede the green letter (as itโs yellow), it very much narrows things down. I donโt think there were more than 3 likely answers!

Yes, with C in 4th spot, you'd normally be thinking the last letter would be T, K or Y or maybe a vowel, but you had already ruled out T and E.
Today i sat there after my first turn and I wondered if maybe I should ring the changes and try a different eliminator for turn 2. In the end though, I went with the usual and the result really was very unexpected. I was surprised.
I was desperately trying to make a word starting with the consonant but nothing seemed to fit, so I had to go back to plan B, a word starting with one of the vowels. Eventually........
I didn't find this one as easy as some. The better score is because I had an inspiration for #8. My very first word gave me the first 3 letters and the answer popped into my head. It was only later that i looked again and thought... it could have been something else. I was very lucky.
After that, I reverted to my usual second choice word and I had to use another eliminator a bit further down. I used mangy. I don't know why I thought of that but wasn't it one of the words in octordle just a day or so ago? In any case, it came out for another visit.๐
And why not, a lot of the answers today are old friends. I am getting a bit tired of #5, he and his family seem to call in too often lately.
