WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education ๐Ÿคฃ

โฌ›๐ŸŸฉ๐ŸŸฉโฌ›โฌ›

My starter did well, and I am happy with the eliminator result. Only two possible words would fit (that I could see), and I chose correctly.

I took a risk with my first guess at row 2, but it hit the jackpot, and then could guess my way through until row 8 where I needed an eliminator.

I knew as soon as I made a mistake on turn 4 (I tried threw instead of three, silly move as they seem to be on a numbers kick lately) that the score would not be ideal.
After turn 5 (to correct my mistake), I sat there for a minute or so as several squares seemed to have a couple of possibilities.
But once I got #3 correct, I found suddenly the way was clear and one word led to another.

Yes, this was one of those Octordles with good word connections within. Your choices were perfectly logical. My starter was just luckier than yours.

Re: WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

If you can guess a word on the 2nd row, and hold off with an eliminator as long as possible, Octordle gives one a nice little pat on the head.

Today, back to the usual 52.

I could have tried for the 2nd row guess, but I didnโ€™t think Iโ€™d be that lucky twice in a row. Just as well, as my guess would have been wrong.

Re: WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

Horrible results all round for me.

I could blame it on the fact I did it in the wee small hours (had trouble sleeping) but actually it was because I was stubborn (at least in octordle). I knew very well the cautious approach would have been to use an eliminator but no, I kept plugging away and paid dearly.

Spoiler
On turn 3, I looked at #6 and thought 'begun' and when I looked down at a scrap piece of paper I have next to the computer where I jot down ideas, I saw the words begun rerun at the top. I was pretty sure this was from wordle a few days back and the answer was rerun? I got it wrong that day and tried begun first.
So I thought, maybe octordle will try to be tricky too and so for 3rd turn, I tried... rerun.๐Ÿ˜•
Corrected next turn but some damage had been done.

Then by turn 6, I had caste my eyes on #1. I had letters T_I_E and I knew there was an R that had to be in second place.
I thought-trice or trite. This is the spot I should have just gone straight into a general eliminator as several squares were still hazy and could have done witha  boost.
But I decided to go for trice as they seem to have been on a numbers kick lately. Wrong.
So instead of an eliminator, I immediately get annoyed and try TRITE and that is wrong too. What on earth can it be then? I ask myself as I look at the unused letters.
Then the answer hits me, at last.

Re: WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

PS Wish me well as I am going to write down some passwords in my diary and attempt to do wordle etc and post from my phone over the next few weeks. But I may not be able to every day, I will see how I go.

Meanwhile happy wordling!
