WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Very annoyed with myself over this one.

Made a few mistakes along the way. They weren't 'stupid' mistakes as in putting letters where they could not possibly go, but I may have been able to avoid some if I had been a bit more strategic.

Spoiler
On turn 4,  for #4,  I had green at the start and end (A,T) plus a yellow P.  Aha, apart, I thought.
Which it could have been.
But had I looked along the row of  boxes, I would have realised that #7 was more of a surer thing as the T was not at the end. Plus it is an answer that comes out a fair bit. Had I solved that next, it would have shown me there was no R in #4.

Then later for #5, I tried bride, which again was not the answer. I had just not even thought of drive

I was really worried near the end, solving #7, wince or mince? At least with that one, I was aware of the possibilitie

I didn't have a clue even after 2 turns so I used a word on my third turn that at least had some useful letters in it (craft) and it turned out to be fairly close. Then I was tossing up between draft and graft so this could have taken 5, I just got lucky.

PS Having to edit as I realised I hadn't actually remembered to put up the results.😂

Hope you are feeling a bit better today!

Da-da! Drumroll, I proudly present my best ever result, although

Spoiler
I know you'll realise it was a bit of luck, with my usual eliminator coming out at turn 2. I got quite a surprise and decided to take it really slowly and carefully, since I had been given a big advantage.

I was going okay for a little while but had to use another eliminator (pricy) part way down.
Hardest for me today was #5 as my brain kept going cocoa/cacao, but I could plainly see they were not possible. In the meantime, I was stuck on #8, prime or pride, prime or pride? Luckily comma took care of that and I was able to complete it.

What a fantastic Octordle result, springyzone! As soon as I saw a particular word pop up, I knew you had an excellent shot at a result below 52.

The best I could do was 52, but that’s fine.

I could see only 4 possible answers after my starter. I didn’t guess correctly at row 2 but it did leave me only one possible answer at that point.

If I’d played “wrath” instead at row 2, I’d still have three options left if my guess were wrong… but “graft” or “draft” would have been fine to narrow it down to one remaining possibility. As long as I didn’t play “wrath”, I’d have the answer by either the 2nd or 3rd row.

Ah well, it is back to reality for me today.

Spoiler
alien/taser, yes a change from my usual but I wanted a word that had an R at the end and I really like the letters T & S
So that confirmed the shape of the word, but was it baker, maker, wager, wader etc?
3, I tried dogma
4, I tried bower

I was pleased enough with this, easy enough, no new words here at all.

Just the usual dilemmas of is it this or that?

Spoiler
I had a strong feeling about #1 and was sorely tempted to try plain at turn 2, but it could have been slain, so i just went with my usual.
Unfortunately, I then went with broth for #5 with my next guess and was wrong. All the rest went well but that early mistake cost me.

No real challenge here! - but of course the starter and eliminator chosen will dictate whether it falls nicely into place or whether things are elusive.

Wordle 1,301 3/6

Deeply satisfying – I was able to use an eliminator which would decide between the most likely possible words. It was down to seven possibles.

Spoiler

Wordle 1,301 3/6

🟩🟩🟨 TRACE
🟨🟩 PLANS
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 CRAWL 🎯

After my starter, it had to be CRAMP, CRASS, CRASH, CRAWL, CRAZY, CRANK, FRANC.

So… my eliminator needed to have an S in 5th position, an L, either an M or a P… In the worst case scenario, the answer would be either franc or crank, which would mean a 50/50 chance of getting it on row 3. I thought “franc” least likely, anyway.

PLANS ruled out everything except CRAWL.
