WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

springyzone, I saw that you had a FABULOUS result for your Octordle, and I immediately stopped reading your post… because I thought to myself, “Let’s see if I can match this” and of course I didn’t want any pre-play advantage by way of clues.

I have to admit I would never have tried to go through without an eliminator were it not for your score. A couple of times, I was flummoxed or faced with several choices.

So… I owe this one to you.

ACTOR 🎯 I was immediately faced with a dilemma. It could have been carat… I just had to make a choice.
ANGER 🎯 Oh, this was awful. It could have been abler, adder, aimer, amber, alder, asker, auger… If the previous 50/50 spooked me, this did so even more. It was a case of guess and be damned… or surrender and use an eliminator. I was within a hair’s-breadth of trying amber.
DEBAR 🎯 Did I think it was going to get any easier? This could have been rebar. I think I decided on debar in the hopes of getting that “D” to elucidate whether or not 3R could be “greed”.
GRUEL 🎯 No, it wasn’t. No D, no greed.
GLYPH 🎯 could have been gilly but I thought it unlikely.
PITHY 🎯 a safe choice, thankfully.

Mistake on # 7 (bauk instead of caulk) and for some reason, #4 was beyond me, even though I had 4 letters by half way. I had to physically write it out before it came to me.
Did use another eliminator (dumpy), not much help but I was floudering a bit so at least it ruled some letters out, I suppose.

Honestly, the rescue game today defies credibility.

They are expecting us to accept that someone who had 3 turns which showed 4 greens in place, plus an extra, yellow letter, could not work out what the word was for their 4th turn?😂
