WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I had a reasonable chance of guessing the answer on row 2, but as it turned out, it wasn’t until row 3 that I struck gold.

I had been sorely tempted to try a different eliminator, maybe reach, but don't think it would have helped me any better.
Of course by turn 3, I was faced with the usual shape/shade/share/shave etc etc so I tried drape, which solved it by elimination.

I am satisfied with this in that I don't think I could have solved it all any earlier.

After my first turn, I didn't really have any amazing leads so I just used shout as usual & the answers began to come.

However!

Spoiler
when I got to turn 5, I could not believe my eyes. The yellow A/R/E showing in the last 3 spots by then on the second word meant it could only be one answer, as far as I could see. But I wasn't game to make that move for a moment.
Wordle is NY times and octordle is Britannica but I can't but suspect these puzzle makers are in cahoots.

By the time I got half way down, I felt I needed another eliminator to cut through some possibilities, so used crumb, which was very helpful.

PS The 7th could have been joker but I am sure I saw that come out somewhere just recently and thought.. surely not again, not after they have had the cheek to use shear.
But I was just lucky as they have the audacity to do anything.😂

This is another one where I am reasonably happy, considering. Anything under a 60 score is a bonus for me.

I was quite pleased with solving #4 first. I looked at it and thought.. I have a feeling it is... and so it was.

But only because I have seen that word pop out several times before. I suspect octordle is, to some extent, a learned experience.

But again, half way through, I felt I needed another eliminator to cut down on some of teh possibilities.

Spoiler
I used bumph.

The answer to #5 made me laugh. I am currently in the throes of making a photobook about one of the grandkids and this word is a little scrapbook thingy that pops up on some of the pre decorated layouts. I usually delete it and move things around but have left it in one spot.

Hmm, now I look at it, I may need to move the word cutie up slightly. Decisions, decisions!

So, I started with alien. No surprises there.
My first reaction when I saw the results was to think-maybe frill.
But a few seconds of extra thought & I realised drill, krill, grill were also possible or even a word like child, still, spill, guilt. Even swirl. They all seemed quite possible although I wasn't quite as keen about still.

Second word was scarf. That made me think, probably a -rill word.
Third word was budge.

As you can see, I made a mistake early on in the piece, with #1, when I tried route.
I took a risk with #5, could have been squid, but it often is squib. I also took a risk on #7 but I thought blind might be more likely than bling. But basically, I was lucky to even get 59 in this game.
