WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

OMG congrats on the 46er. So exciting!

I am sorry now I didn't get around to doing them at all last night when i got home.

It's not that I do all that much on Mondays but walking to the park and looking after the 2 boys takes it out of me, I am always ready for a rest when I get home. Just getting old, I guess.

I was pleased with this but it took me a while to work out.

I was also thinking aspen but thought ashen would be slightly more likely. Who knows, these days!
But it was worth a guess.

cl 15.jpgIt's funny in that after my first turn, I felt alien had yielded pretty good results, overall. It certainly gave me a better feel than when I started the extreme version later on, but in the end, I found this game trickier.

I took a risk on turn 4, as you can see, but I did think R would be a useful letter to have out, even if the word turned out to be one of the alternatives. I was also toying with liver for #8, but I am sure idler has been out before so i wwent with that.
So a few risks here & there, result could have been much worse.

I wasn't off to a great start after turn 1, but overall this game  turned out to be more straightforward.

The only ones I hesitated over were #4, shrub or shrug, it was obvious after turn 2, but luckily solving #2 graph cleared things up.
And #1. This was the only one I felt was risky, cocoa or cacao. We were down to only a few letters left my then. Maybe there were other possibilities but if so, I lived on in blissful ignorance.😁

Overall, happy with today's octordles. I do live in hope that one day I will score under 50 again but suspect it will be a long time between drinks.

I needed a good eliminator to bring this down to a manageable level. I’m happy with this eliminator; there was only one strong contender.

Realistically after the eliminator, the A could only be in 1st position. (Nivea is not a word!) N might be in 2nd position but with R and L and T ruled out, and no N in 3rd position, I couldn’t see any possible word. So… it had to be A__EN.

While it was barely possible that Wordle would try to throw us with axmen (US spelling) or the informal admen, it seemed far far far more likely that the answer was ashen

Looking after two boys is never easy. I’m not surprised you need “gimme some down time”.

I’m very happy with this; the second row guess was a little bit of a long shot but it was my immediate instinct to choose between two words. This owes almost everything to luck.

There were so many possible words at row 2… tonne, tense, those, twine, theme, these, thine, toque, tinge, title, tithe, tulle… I was lucky. I immediately thought of those and twine, and went for the latter.

After that, reign was obvious.

Uncut seemed exactly the sort of Wordle Octordle likes to use.

And then I came to a halt: time for an eliminator.

But it was an honourable error. The final word choice was 50/50, both credible possibilities.
