WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Another morning woven from the felt of night… a mungo pre-dawn.

Octordle - it could almost mean a group of eight chorus girls wearing girdles and playing 8-part harmonies with fiddles and hurdy-gurdy. But no - there are no scantily-clad chorus girls here. Let’s start with the Daily Classic Octordle.

Just look at that lovely 46. It’s so pleasing in its demeanour as a score.

Having TRAC_ for 2R, straightaway after starting, was frustratingly enticing. However, I had just enough information to be able to take a solid guess at 1R, which gave me just enough to take a solid leap at 4R, which opened up 3L, which gave me 3R, and thus to 2R, by which time I could also solve 2L. I could have tried guessing 4L but it really was best at that point to use my first eliminator.

From the heady heights of 46, back to the perfectly acceptable 52 for Extreme…

I was lucky. The eliminator narrowed things down from umpteen to four, and that luck kicked in with my 1-in-4 guess.

Literally pure luck. It could have been segue, or sense, or sedge - but if suede was wrong, at least I’d have data on whether “u” and/or “d” were present.

Wow, congratulations on your 46 yesterday. Great work.

My results are a bit mixed.

I have woken up very early and had trouble getting back to sleep so here I am.

I got about half way and ran out of inspiration so used another eliminator (forge instead of fudgy as the D had already been out and R is such a useful letter. But of course I paid the price for it, score wise.

I know how bad this looks, but I feel they played a bit unfair with one of the words.

I made a mistake very early on (always fatal, score wise), as I played tango for #4. But really, Tonga? I could be mistaken but I have only ever seen that used as a proper noun & wasn't expecting that to be in the game.

Then at the end, I knew #6 was between plaid and flail (having ruled out flair) so I had a 50/50 chance with that and was just in the wrong 50.😁
