WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

One look at my yellows and I thought-you're kidding me, 3 vowels, that's it? No idea.
I wondered if there could be a Q in it but that didn't work. I then suspected there might be R, but nothing was ringing bells.
Third word was fudgy and suddenly it all fell into place.

My first word left me with very lean pickings.

One look at the results after my second turn and I knew # 5 needed a C or P but you know how accurate my guesses have been lately.  I thought #8 might be opera.
So I went for a 3rd eliminator, pricy.
I was racing along quite niecely after that till the end. Drool or droll? Chose the wrong one. Getting to be a habit!

This might look like a better played game but it wasn't. I am intensely annoyed with myself.

Snick or sniff I asked myself, after turn 2. I went with sniff, though I suspected a few words might have C.
Then made a mistake on #1. Oh well, these things happen, but really, I should have guessed #2 before that.
But the really, really irritating thing for me is #8. I looked at my letters and immediately thought-fugue, sure to be and, as is my tendency, immediately entered it. And it wasn't even possible, if I had bothered to look.
How on earth did I miss fudge? It's one of my favourite variations.

Annoyed with myself, very annoyed.

1R was within guessing reach … BEACH, LEACH, or PEACH. But I didn’t feel comfortable enough to try that guess… Hence my use of build as the eliminator. It turned out to be the perfect eliminator, in fact.

Omega is such an apt word for the final solution.

It’s odd; I really should have played 4L before 4R, as I only had the final green E and a yellow G (along with a presumed / possible U … or a second E) for 4R. Nevertheless, gut feeling was saying “fudge”. I obeyed the promptings of that little voice!

4L… I already knew it was “cheap”.

The rest fell into place without a murmur.

Holey doughnut! We had such a different experience with this one!

Hmmm… it’s your starter that didn’t help out much for this particular Octordle. You had bad luck right down to the last word. My 2nd row eliminator actually gave me the LL for your OO choice, so - good luck was with me and unfortunately you had the harder task.

Ouch - I’d be annoyed too. And how ironic in a grim way that one of my earliest words (in row 4) was one of your favourites but was missed this time…

I was very happy with this as I was half expecting my second word to be a total washout.

All the more thrilling then to get a couple more reveals.

Mind you, the words that immediately swept into my mind  by turn 3 were impossible so it took me a few moments to rethink it.

After getting wordle in 3, I felt I was off to a good start and this might be my *lucky* day, so I determined to slow down and go more carefully.

Have to say it was a hard slog on both the octordles for me today and by the end of the extreme version, I lost a bit of focus. Always fatal.

I was feeling lucky so I went with my first thought for #8, but of course that messed up shout, so my next turn was grout instead.
I rather fancied purge for # 5 earlier on at first, lucky I had used G in grout and knew it couldn't be.

No luck with this one, as far as solving anything after my first turn.
After turn 2, I thought #5 might be north and #7 might be scoop or swoop or spoor etc. 
But then I got caught up in the thrill of #8 virtually solving #4 as well.

But soon after this, I realised C/P were out of the equation for #7.

So I felt I was going along okay at that stage, avoiding some pitfalls. Pride comes before a fall and in the rush to finish, I had a brainwave for #2, aha, rabid I thought.
You can see from earlier turns there could be no D on the end there. I could see it too (had I looked more carefully). Very annoyed with myself. Just the sort of unnecessary mistake I made yesterday.
