WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordle

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education ๐Ÿคฃ

Horrible. The whole thing teetered on loose planks. My first three were all guesses, and whatโ€™s worse, they became riskier as I moved from guess 1 to guess 3. Oh, this could have gone terribly wrong.

โ€ฆ And it didnโ€™t get much better here. I donโ€™t know how I got through this. I didnโ€™t deserve the 52; it was blind luck.

The first two words were fine, admittedly, but 1L โ€ฆ? A wild 1 in 6!

This was just luck.
After my first 2 turns, my initial thought was .. later.
But it couldn't be that, so I reversed the vowels into the 2/4 pattern and put L at the end and tried petal. After that, I realised... metal? So.. lucky.

I was on the point of making my 3rd try another eliminator because I couldn't see my way cleat to a straightforward guess. But then I saw #6 and thought... 3 vowels, I should be able to come up with something here. I was pretty sure the i would go in front of O and the e at the end, and this is a word that has been out a few times before, so I went for it.
As the extreme game showed me later though, I was actually lucky this guess turned out.

31 ex.jpgImagine my surprise to see #1 was a replica of results in the classic, where I went for biome on turn 3.
They wouldn't have the same answer again, would they? or was it a double bluff? In any case, #3 was clear cut, so safer to try that.
And just like that, biome was off the table. I didn't figure it out till later.

But I was stuck. #6, stoop, story, stork. I fancied stoop.
#2, grown, frown, brown. I fancied grown, for no logical reason.
#7, thought might be relit.
#8, no clear idea but maybe rally?
So I used gripy as eliminator. probably not perfect, but it did the job.

It could have been beast, feast, yeast, leant, meant, dealt, exalt, beaut, death, heath, leapt, meaty, peaty. An eliminator like balmy or delph or sylph or spend could have reduced the possibilities โ€“ but not enough to provide certainty.

I decided to just dive in with a a guess. (1 in 14.)

After solving 4L (quill), I was at a bit of a standstill. 3L and 3R were both enticing but with one crucial letter out of reach. I assumed the inclusion of S for 3R (hence pattern of S_ELL - smell, spell, swell - but it could also have been dwell) but also assumed the pattern of _LING for 3L. Whatever I did would be a risk. But if I made a guess of sling, and it was wrong, then Iโ€™d know 3R must be dwell and Iโ€™d have further information to solve the remaining words.

It was right.

I then had enough to solve 1R, and the shrinking pool of letters also meant I could solve 1L, which in turn gave me the M for 3R. 2L was simple to solve from the remaining letters.
