WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

The octordles today weren't that hard but I didn't shine in them, put it that way.

My main bit of luck came at the start. Clean or glean.  I fancied glean more and thought G might be the start of #6 too.
But then after shout, I used another eliminator, crumb, because there were a few too many choices for me to feel safe guessing.
Just as well I didn't guess as I probably would have said clown or flown before blown.

Fair enough … Yes… needing that second eliminator put you in Octordle’s sights. It definitely punishes second-eliminator users, even when it’s necessary.

Just managed to sneak in under 60 on this one.

As you can see, I jumped in with a wrong answer on #7. Why I was fixated on globe, I am not sure, but I had it down for elope or globe, but now realise it could have been clove as well. Or glove, which it ultimately was.

Oh well, at least it ruled out gusty! And it suddenly made #8 clearer.

This was actually beautifully solved. It was just a small itsy bitsy piece of not-quite-good-luck with #7.

The H from thumb gave me whiny.

Canny was obvious.

It took me a while to think of “vapour” because of the lack of a U.

Re: WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I did do it yesterday but on phone and don't know how to transfer it without a big rigmarole.

in fact, I used to be able to easily forward to a friend in messenger on facebook but now that isn't working.😕

But I took 4. My 3rd guess was pylon. I don't know why, but nylon didn't occur to me till after pylon failed.

Most of these unravelled without any drama or great risk.

Spoiler
9 cl.jpgTurn 3 was obvious and for turn 4, I thought assay was worth the risk as I had spots 2 and 3 that looked the same, so i figured I had a reasonable chance of hitting one or the other.
#1 I was sorely tempted to try felon, as that was my first thought, but it could just as easily have turned out to be melon so i left it & realised later I had been blithely worrying about all the others when I had already scratched M way back about turn 5.

This one was much riskier.

I didn't feel confident about anything at turn 3.

Some had a few possibilities and others I just didn't have a clue.

Spoiler
9 ex.jpgI tried acorn on turn 3 because it was the first one I thought of, though I knew it could be adorn. Maybe other words too, I don't know.
I went with acorn though as, at that stage, I thought #4 might be shock or #8 might be shack. C was always going to be useful to uncover.

The last one though  took me ages although I am pretty sure it has been out before so I should have guessed much earlier.
But after seeing no vowels, I was thinking dryly, wryly till I realised nope, the L is in second place.
Anyway, I can tell you for sure that apparently flyly isn't a real word as in desperation, I tried it.😂

I muddled things up.

I should have posted 1572, not 1573. 1573 is today’s Wordle.

So here is yesterday’s Wordle.

From my eliminator onwards, I was resisting the urge to play melon for 1L: it was obviously either felon or melon. I decided to try lease for 3L first, as I could see the S, if correct, would be useful throughout. Fortunately it was correct.

Then I tackled 4R, which was either decal or fecal (US spelling of faecal) - and I thought it unlikely that Octordle would use fecal. (Possible but not as likely as its old favourite, decal.) Another piece of luck: I was right.

4L - could have been strim, but I think it’s British English/Australian English and probably not used in the US, thus unlikely to be used by Octordle. Strip was therefore the only real contender.

2R was obviously nerdy; 2L was obviously assay, and that led to 1R, which had to be amass. This ruled out M in 1L, so - oh joy! - there was a felon hiding there, just waiting to be discovered!
