WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Spoiler
When I saw the results after my first turn, I realised I had to do the hard bit myself (thinking of answers) as any further eliminators would be unlikely to yield much.
All those vowels!
Then I had a brainwave. email.
And we've seen it before in octordle, too.
In with a good chance, I thought. Wrong!
At least it placed the L for me.

What a pain this was! Took me ages.

Honestly, I might expect one of their multi possibilities in a game but to throw two in was a  bit mean.

19 cl.pngThank goodness I guessed gaudy early on as it at least solved #7 for me. I hadn't been looking forward to having to narrow down that and #4.
Towards the end, I felt I needed another eliminator (comfy).
I probably would have guessed poppy for #1, had I not unearthed a B in it.

By the score, you'd think this was harder but I found I moved through this game a lot faster.

Maybe not better, but faster.😂

This game was quite obliging in that a couple of times when I was thinking this or that? eg squib/squid, broom/groom, that earlier solve of album came through for me.

I made a mistake (of course I did) on #3, as I was rubbing my hands with glee, thinking, can't be bitty. Only left witty and kitty (we won't be having any uncouth answers, of course). Witty, in my opinion, was a much better answer but unfortunately not the right one.🤣

It came down to one letter at the start of the final word, but it was a bit tricky throughout.

ROAST 🎯🍀 could have been otary or boart, but both are highly unlikely

GAUNT 🎯

CABLE 🎯🍀 could have been calve, caple (unlikely), macle (unlikely)

GAUDY 🎯🍀 could have been gauzy, gaudy (highly unlikely)

LARVA 🎯 could have been lazar, lahar, lavra (all highly unlikely)

DIODE 🎯

DROOL 🎯

HOBBY 💣

BOBBY 🎯

There were quite a few highly unlikely possibilities, but I ruled them out. 2R (ROAST) was a certainty given the circumstances, and 4R (CABLE) was in practical terms a 50/50. 3R was also a 50/50 by the same process, and I chose GAUDY because a D would be more useful.

3L was clearly LARVA.

1R and 2L offered no resistance.

Everything was going along so well… and then came 1L swaggering along with its _OB_Y. Clearly there was a double B before the Y, but was it HOBBY or BOBBY?

I chose wrongly.

The eliminator was one I’ve used a few times before; it wouldn’t help much in the majority of Octordles but was rather good in this one.

PENNE 🎯

Straight out of the gate, 1L was clearly PUNCH or PLUCK. (Small chance it was PSYCH if Octordle was being idiotic with abbreviations.) The risk was worth taking.

Thereafter, everything fell into place, helped by those consonants B, P, or D. I was particularly pleased by not having BROOM to consider for 1L.

My word-horse stumbled over PEEVE/PENNE, but having left it till last mitigated the consequences.
