WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordle

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education ๐Ÿคฃ

This was not without its risks: early risks, too, which have the potential to punish severely if it all goes wrong.

My gut said caper.

I hovered between trope and tripe. Luck smiled.

It would have been exactly Octordleโ€™s style to plunk another R into the _IC(ER*) [*confirmed] of 4L. On the other hand, nicer would certainly fit and an N would be handy to rule in or outโ€ฆ I made my guess.

There were โ€œcould-beโ€s all over the place. I wanted to rule in/out M, L, O, S, D, F, Gโ€ฆ but I whittled it down to the most useful and decided upon MOULD as an eliminator.

Right! That got rid of amply for 2L; it was apply. It gave me liner for 2R. 1L was an all-green money. 3L needed only an H for loath. And finally it was the final wordโ€ฆ _LATE. Ah. Perhaps I should have played MOULS as my eliminator. I had to guess between slate and elate.

After my 4th row, I was very tempted to try hound for 4Rโ€ฆ but I resisted as I could see other possibilities. I turned my attention to the other blocks, in particular to 4L. I had 4 letters, including a green I. Careful work here resulted in only one possible word โ€“ align.

That final N gave me 3L (brawn). The W of brawn gave me 1R (sinew) but along the way I took a chance on 2L (avert). I really should have waited with that; sinew would have established the position of E and ruled out after.

3R โ€“ hmm. I hadnโ€™t narrowed it down further, but I judged most of the possibilities to be very unlikely apart from radii and radix. I made my choice.

4R - I almost played this before 3R, and had I done so, Iโ€™d have made a misstep and tried hoody. As it was the D from radii ruled that out, and there was only hooky remaining.

This gave me such a good laugh. You're asking ME? I have no clue, apart from the fact your eliminators pointed to the likely hood the word had a U in it and started with S. I can't think of any other words in any case, though I am not a good judge.

So I felt I needed another eliminator and used fudgy.

After turn 1, I recall thinking #3, chomp or chord, don't know, move on. Luckily for me, #4 was clearer.
I had glanced earlier at #2 and thought fried/cried/dried/drier etc but when the D came up green at the end, I jumped on it and thought-aha, C eliminated, D used, must be fried. So I was lucky there that the D was not used twice.

Not difficult as such, no great gnashing ot teeth and indecision, but did get stuck half way down. Now that it is finished, I can see that #7 should have been obvious, but at the time I was stuck, particularly on #2.

On turn 4, I looked at #4 and thought, here we go again, chomp or chord. Surely it won't be chord again, will it? Well, it might be, we have had that done to us before, but I decided to take a risk and assume they probably went for a different answer this time.

Sometimes another person can spot a different possibility with a fresh pair of eyes. But looking over than Wordle, I think that I didnโ€™t miss anything. (But I am definitely feeling a bit wobbly with these at the moment - the dizziness is interfering with my thought processes.)

I am here to tell you there is nothing wrong with your thought processes. On a bad day, you're still better than I am on a good one, so don't worry. I do hope you feel better soon though.

Maybe just put your feet up, have plenty of water on hand and order a pizza instead of cooking tonight.
