WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Third day in a row where I completely messed up, but I feel it is almost miraculous that I got out of the scrape I put myself into and escaped with a score of 52. In the circumstances, I am thrilled.

Plus-my snipping tool worked okay today. Both times.

After turn 1, I had a look along the row but didn't feel I could solve anything with certainty so typed in shout. Or that is what I thought I was doing. In my mind, I was considering #5 and thinking, you never know, it may be shale.
I was absolutely horrified to look up and see I had typed in-shale.
Fortunately for me, it was not a complete wipe out and I was able to guess the next two lines. I was so relieved though to finally get to line 6 and be able to uncover O, at least.

I can't edit the above, but just to add, I knew #8 was a risk & that #3 answer should be obvious if I thought for a while but at that stage I had not solved it, so just went with the risk.

27 ex.jpgRan smoothly, one word leading to the next. No pangs of indecision.
I felt going for #8 was probably a risk & considering it now, I guess it could have been  gawky but in my mind, all I could see in neon lights at the time was wacky.

There was a bit of guesswork, but as I was solving this, it felt very clear and certain.

Spoiler

TRACE

CREAM 🎯🍀 could have been creak, crema, arced

ÉCLAT 🎯

DINGO <- eliminator

MUNCH 🎯

SHORT 🎯🍀 could have been horst (very unlikely)

SWIRL 🎯🍀 could have been skirl

SLICK 🎯

PROWL 🎯

SPREE 🎯

For 4L, I considered arced unlikely, but cream, crema and creak were real contenders. It was worth taking a guess, though.

After that, éclat was the only possible answer for 3L.

I was off to a good start with two words solved, but now I had no clear path: time for an eliminator. The next two words were straightforward (I didn’t seriously consider horst at all), and even with 3R, swirl was the most likely of the two possible answers.

There were no surprises with the rest.

SHACK 🎯

WACKY 🎯

SWEET 🎯

CRUMP 🎯🍀 could have been crumb

PETTY 🎯

HONEY 🎯

DIGIT 🎯

BEGIN 🎯

This was a quick brown fox of a puzzle. It was extremely helpful to have shogi as the eliminator, and solving one word led helpfully to the next.

For 3L… the C had to go before the confirmed R, and there were only two possible words that would fit.

The rest was completely straightforward. There weren’t alternatives or guesses.

That could have been disastrous!

You kept your head and didn’t lose anything by it. That first letter in your eliminator was crucial, luckily. 🤣

This didn't really present any problems as one word seemed to lead to the next.

Spoiler
28 cl.jpgWhen I first looked at it seriously, after my second turn, I felt I should be able to narrow down the choices on #6. In the end, all I could come up with were plonk and blond (looks awful, doesn't it?).
I thought, for sure it will be blond. Plonk just doesn't seem their type of word.

This was also fairly straight forward, with one answer leading nicely to the next.

I was worried about #4 for a while & thought I might be in for another eliminator at the end (and you can probably guess which one), but luckily for me, it solved itself.
