I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I've just finished mine.
I am very impressed you got the wordle in 3 today as it would not have been a straight forward one for you.
I imagined you would start with trace, which gave you the E ending, and I was trying to figure out what it could be but my mind was influenced by my own choices after alien.
I was thinking (for me) above, awoke, adore, abode/adobe.
I couldn't think of any others, though there may have been.
But you would have been faced with those and words such as halve, abide, gauze, maybe, eagle etc
So you used an excellent eliminator.
Mine went
alien
shout
bawdy (which I was very pleased with)
then awoke
I forgot to put the link!

Did this one reasonably quickly. No places with multiple choices.
Early on I did think-not nitro, again?
pinot was standing out but I did hesitate and think, would it be? But couldn't see anything else. Same with capon.

It was down to neume, mneme, endue, undue, venue. I thought the first two unlikely. It seemed most probable to be between endue and venue. I picked the wrong word.

CRASS 🎯
EGRET 🎯
VALET 🎯
GROVE 🎯
BROIL 🎯
SQUIB 🎯
BONNY 🎯
DECAF 🎯
I wanted S as the final letter of the eliminator, to narrow down 1L (crash, crass, crawl, cramp, crack). An L would also be useful to rule out crawl, and L is a handy letter anyway.
Egret was obvious, and that opened up valet (3R), which in turn gave me grove (4R).
3L (broil) was now obvious, and the B was revealed in 1R and 4L. I almost risked playing bonus for 4L, but it could be bonny. A closer look at 1R yielded only one possible solution - squib - and that would reveal S and U for 4L if bonus were the answer there. And… just as well I’d tackled 1R first; 4R was NOT bonus.
2R had also been teasing me throughout. I had a C that couldn’t be in 1st or 4th position; A that couldn’t be in 2nd or 3rd position; E that couldn’t be in 1st, 4th or last position. Ruled-out letters included S, L, N, T, to deal just with the most obvious. It could NOT be pecan, no matter how many times the word whispered in my mind. After calculating, it became clear that It had to be deca_. A strong possibility was decay… but it could be decaf or decad (the latter was unlikely, in my opinion). Well, with the Y of bonny ruling out decay, the most likely answer was decaf - and so it was.

SpoilerThings started off with promise but very quickly I ran into trouble, in that most spots had various possibilities.
#5 had looked like frail to me, till turn 3, so then I tried a 2/4 vowel pattern and thought viral seemed about right.
It wasn't.😋
I can't complain too much though as the V was useful. I would not have guessed #8 otherwise, because of the spelling.
Then at the end, baker or maker. I fancied baker slightly more. Typical!😂
Oh no… You were in an unenviable situation at row 5. I don’t know what I’d have done…
