WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

🟨🟩🟩 PLIMS <- eliminator

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 CLAMP 🎯

Possible solutions after starter: chain chaff chalk champ chasm chaos clash clank clang class claim clamp clasp scamp scaly scalp scald

Using PLIMS as eliminator:

chain __y__

chaff _____

chalk _y___

champ y__g_

chasm ___yy

chaos ____g

clash _g__y

clank _g___ A: possibility 1 of 2

clang  _g___ A: possibility 2 of 2

class _g__g

claim _gyy_

clamp yg_g_

clasp yg__y

scamp y__gy

scaly _y__y B: possibility 1 of 2

scalp yy__y

scald _y__y B: possibility 2 of 2

13 unique outcomes, and only two 50/50 could-be groups! I’d almost certainly guess it on row 3; worst case scenario would be if it were clank/clang or scaly/scald, so a 2/17 chance it would be solved on row 4.

Yes, plims was ideal.

New eliminator tried. Not a bad result.

It was a bit of a risk playing tarot at the start; torah was a real contender. Luckily I was right, and that led me straight to allot, which gave me troll. 4R (robot) was obvious, and that B cleared up 1L (abase).

By now I knew that 1R was sonic. (Earlier, it could have been scion, but robot’s O in 2nd position clarified its being sonic.)

2R could only be belay.

3R was down to two possibilities; I thought gripe unlikely.

GADJO <- final eliminator

JAUNT 🎯

After lions, it was obvious that 2R was either trope or trove, and 1R was scald/scalp/scaly. I left them for the moment; 4R was a clear-cut lasso, which then gave me 1L (macro). It also confirmed 3R as noisy (with the positioning of S).

Noisy in turn provided the Y for 1R as scaly.

3L was almost certainly payer; I thought two other possibilities were extremely unlikely.

Payer confirmed a P in 2R, so that was trope.

One word remained unsolved: 2L. It was clearly _AUNT. The possibilities were daunt, gaunt, haunt, jaunt, vaunt. I couldn’t think of an eliminator that would leave me with only one possibility, but I could at least focus on three of those initial letters. Jihad? Judge? Gadjo? Hoved? Dight? … I decided upon gadjo; if it came back empty, it would be between haunt and vaunt. Luckily the J was ruled in.

I found this easy at the start. Several of them, I couldn't see anything else it was likely to be. Maybe I just missed things, I don't know, but in any case, the answers I thought were likely worked out.

Till I got to the last one. #3.

I was faced with gaunt, daunt, jaunt, vaunt. At first i thought-fudgy would get rid of 2.

Then I thought-judge would cover 3, so that is what I went with.

As you can see, this one didn't work out as easily. What a pain those last 2 were.

I haven't bothered with spoilers as it is unlikely anyone else is here and yours is already up.

From the very first, I was stuck. I was almost going to try route for #5 but I think I got caught out on that once before, so i decided my best way in might be with #6. Took me a while to come up with anything though that would fit.

Then I had a little run of easy ones, though brisk/crisp gave me palpitations. I went with crisp as I had already covered P/R which would be in pricy, so i thought.. cover the C and that eliminator is done and dusted, mainly, anyhow.

As you can see, I eventually used fudgy as I was at a loss. I only got #2 as Y was not at the end so eventually had to try it at the start and we have had yahoo out before, I think, in the distant past.

#1, there were not many letters left to play with, thank goodness.

I was pretty sure from fairly early on it was a 2/4 vowel pattern and pattern would have to be    _e_op

I even tried some unlikely ones that were not allowed till I eventually got to bebop.
