I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I should have used an eliminator for the last word, but I was so annoyed at getting the _AUNT pattern again that I refused and simply made a guess.

Score: 58It's under 60, at least. One must stay positive.🤣
I managed to avoid trouble on the first few turns (though it could have been leech on #7), but then nothing else looked like a sure thing.
I was terribly tempted to try umber for #6 but decided another eliminator would be more useful. I chose privy as C had been out, but in any case, V wasn't very useful.
There were a few spots where I was debating W/M/B/D but luckily they resolved themselves as the game went on.
At the end, gorge or forge.
Yes, those W/M/B/D pools were little traps just waiting for an unwary step. An early second eliminator is sometimes unjustly penalised!

Score: 58Another 58, at least i am consistent!
I was a bit surprised by #3 but couldn't see what else it could be.
But by turn 5, I was stumped. #2 swell or spell?
#5 daunt, gaunt etc
#7 scoop or smock
So.. eliminator.. dumpy, an old favourite of mine.
#5 surprised me, but not much else it could be.
Got to the end, #4 gaunt or vaunt, I'll go for gaunt, I thought. I actually started to type it in then saw the J.
What did I say just yesterday? They like J. Worked for me today, in any case.
Perfectly worked out. This deserves a better score.

Well, the wordle was the end of the happy news, as far as I am concerned.
The two octordles today were painful (to me).

I didn't shine in this one either, mistakes galore, so I was, in fact, shocked to see the score was under 60, that was a nice surprise.

8 of the 17 possible solutions (after LINED) had two Es, so it was obvious I’d need another eliminator with 2 Es to rule in/out those words. Other letters that would help to narrow down my choices, B, V, P, K, L and S would be on my list. Of the possible eliminators to fit the criteria I had in mind, bevel would give me the most bang for my buck. I’m pleased that it returned only one possible answer.
I was tempted to play hovel rather than bevel (gut instinct - which of course is not always right!), but in the end, logic won out. Either way, it was always going to take me 4 rows.

EAGER 🎯🍀 could have been wager, rager, lager, sager
ADOBE 🎯🍀 could have been abode

MANLY 🎯🍀 could have been nanny, lanky, hanky
Gut feeling drove me to take that first chance with irate. An eliminator was necessary at that point, and I could at least solve 4R and 3R without much trouble.
But after that, risks abounded. 1L - I ruled out piker as unlikely, but plier was a strong possibility. I opted for piper as the most oft-used.
Ditto with 1R - I thought eager and wager the most likely, and Octordle has often used eager as the trickiest option.
2L - there was nothing to tell me whether it was adobe or abode. Octordle uses both with roughly equal frequency. Pure guess, pure luck.
4L was a relief. It was obviously buyer.
3L - I was ready to cry: another guess? Why? Why? I opted for manly, on the grounds that if it were wrong, it would at least narrow down on the remaining possibilities.
I hated this Octordle! I was disproportionately lucky in my guesses, but the mere fact of having to make those guesses made me as shaky as a blancmange.

I didn't get far before I was faced with multiple choice answers.
Was # 5 possibly banal or canal, was #7 umber or upper, was #3 abode/adobe/above? And so it went.
I ended up using another eliminator, bumpy. I would have gone for pricy except R was already out plus I thought B might be useful.
After that, things went well till they didn't. In fact, it is lucky I got through at all today.
I don't feel too bad though as by that point, I had no logical way to know which choices would be right so it was guesswork.
Riper or piper? I tried riper, wrong (#1)
eager or rager? I tried eager, right (#2) Lucky.
then the infamous #3, abode/above/adobe. Tried above. Wrong, but at least the answer was then clear, otherwise I would have dipped out altogether.
I know… I know. Wasn’t it horrible?!!!!!
