WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

3 ex.pngI rushed into #7 too quickly with hoody and straight away thought... hmm, I don't know if they say that in USA, more likely to be hooky, and so it was. At least later I didn't have to worry about D starting #1, so thank goodness for small mercies.
We saw the return of some past favouries today. Good old baler, swami and lofty.

But I could not believe my eyes. Was this catty/batty/patty/tatty showing its ugly head again? Yes, it was. How rude, surely they should wait longer before recycling.
But at least i recalled bicep eliminator today and just as well, it was that sneaky tatty.

I was immediately dissatisfied with my eliminator as soon as I pressed enter and saw what I was doing. I could have chosen a better word, and had been debating with myself about three possible eliminators, of which plush was one. I typed in plush while somehow thinking of sloth. What a stupid mistake!

But… by sheer good fortune, it worked out. Plush wasn’t a bad eliminator… but I shouldn’t have hit enter so quickly,

I used one of my more unusual eliminators, and I must say it was gave me a good start. I did have to take a slight risk on the 4th row, but it worked out perfectly.

The Y of dicey gave me 4R (stray). The H of dutch ruled out shock for 2L, meaning it must be smock. The M of smock gave me qualm. The L of qualm gave me belie. From the remaining letters, icing was the only possibility for 1L.

3L was either round or gourd; coincidentally, icing ruled one of those out and one of them in.

That is the end of the very pleasing bit, I am afraid.

I didn't do wonderfully on the classic and thought to redeem myself on the extreme, only to do worse.

3 cl.pngIt is not that anything went hideously wron, just that whichever way I swung it, I could see at least 2 possibilities on everything, even after my first 2 turns.

It's a well know fact my best guesses are rarely inspired so I went for another eliminator, pricy. It helped though I had my fingers crossed on #3 that it would not be hutch or butch (I thought that last one unlikely).

You were snookered at the start. 🎱 These Octordles are all about putting off a second eliminator… but sometimes it’s unavoidable!

I looked at your extreme, didn't look awful to me.😁

Result of 54 was much better than I managed, in any case. Anything under 60 is a good day.😀

A very annoying game in that it was all going well till the very end.
Was #3 silly or silky?
The very first word I had thought of for that spot, right back at the start, was silly. But I thought it might be just like them to trip us up with silky, so I went with that. It was 50/50 and I just chose the wrong 50.😖

4 ex.jpgI didn't make any dreadful mistakes as such.
It is just that after my eliminator shout, I looked along the rows and could see nothing that was a clear cut, likely answer. Everything had at least a couple of possible answers.
So.. with reluctance, as I know what it does to the score, I went with another eliminator, pricy.
Clear sailing after that but the damage was done.
