WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

There was one point at which I had to make a guess. (Just as with the above Daily Classic.)

And apart from that … collusion!

Smooth and easy… until 4L posed a 50/50. Octordle has tripped me up in the past with rouge rather than rogue, so I went counter-gut with this. (My instinct leans towards rogue. I guessed rouge.)

But what is this? Dodgy at 4R? This is collusion with Wordle! Outrageous!

My first instinct (after the first two words) was grass.
But I don't entirely trust my instincts and soon thought... or grasp, brass or crass.
So my third word was bicep, and that sorted it out for me.

Just for once, I would like to shine in octordle but it doesn't look as if it will be this week.😂

I took a few risks here. Gloss or floss, chase or phase.
But the run of luck did not continue.

I made the mistake of demur instead of femur. I should have guessed that as femur has popped up before.
Gumbo & pupal make return appearances.

I felt a few wobbles throughout this one too.

Spoiler
17 12 ex.pngThings started out okay for a while.

Then I came to #3. Could it be venus? I felt that was unlikely, but who knows, I never do. Then I thought of nexus and decided to go with it.
But towards the end, I was stuck on #2. drank/prank or grand/brand (which luckily sugar & rebus eliminated)
#4 moist or foist
#5 spoke/smoke/scope

So I fellt I needed another eliminator and used skimp. That immediately solved #5 and I thought it solved #4 too and typed in foist. But before I hit the tab, I thought... J!😮 It could be joist and they like J so I went with it, but really I should have solved #2 before I did that, as #2 was pretty certain and joist was a risk.

One risk (1in 3)… but the rest followed on like a row of ducklings following mummy duck on a walk.

4L was obvious after eliminator, but 3R wasn’t as straightforward. My gut instinct was brisk.

That led to correctly-spelled fibre. Uh-oh, in turn that led to US-spelled foetid, that is, fetid. And… the T in 3rd position meant that 1L wasn’t tumor (US-spelled tumour) but rather tutor.

By now, it was clear that 4R must be aphid. That gave me 1R (spout), and finally 3L (sweet).

It was the only possibility… but I should have used dings as I’d have been in trouble if the answer had been _RAN_ where the final letter was D or K, or to eliminator D as first letter.
