WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

It's fun to try new starters, even ones that might have very unlikely letters.

I do this a lot but more so on wordle unlimited, to see how it goes.

Today's wordle NY,

I was lucky to get the first letter in place. That always helps me no end.

I can hardly believe this. With the RH word, I used an eliminator type word at turn 5, mainly in order to try to work out the location of one of the vowels I knew was in it.

Turns out, it was exactly the wrong version I tried a few days back in Octordle, I think it was. And the answer was almost the same, but in cowboy territory.

If you solve one of the bottom words, that will half way solve the other bottom word.

I was reasonably happy with this one. Nothing too out there in the way of words.

It took 3 rows for me to get a handle on this Wordle for row 4.

I did this yesterday on phone and it took me 4 turns too. I can't actually even remember what the answer was though, just that it took 4 tries. I can't post from my phone as I can't remember how to log into ebay from there.

The others, I got them all but in average sort of results. Octordle score was about 65.

Yesterday was "quirk". Not sure I should be posting it because it seems that despite the game being on the NY Times site, us in Australia are a day ahead of the US folk who play. So, those in the US would be getting "quirk" today.

The birds are chirping in the pearl-grey dawn… Time to Wordle.

I eliminated some possibilities very cunningly with my row 2 eliminator, and both logic and gut feeling led me to the answer.

The second row word can be extremely illuminating, but there’s an element of luck in choosing a good eliminator.

I love reading your comments, they give me a good chuckle sometimes.

I'm afraid I was all out of cunning in my game. I thought I'd never get it.

I used the same starter as in wordle.

With identical, very ordinary results.

The second row eliminator was even worse.

Under the circumstances, I was chuffed to get the answers in 4/5. Luckily they were the only words that jumped out at me.
