I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

SOILY and TRACE to start…
springyzone, what starter are you using for Octordle? I try to use ones where the letters have a good chance of hitting the green…

In all honesty, I don't think my starter word has that many letters that are likely to hit the green.
I often (but not always) start with alien. I would say that L and N are in positions that are reasonably common for those letters, so they are in with a chance.
And it does at least cover 3 of the vowels but the A is not in what I would call a likely position.
I often follow up with shout. Again, a reasonable chance with the consonants and it covers the other vowels O & U.
However, a word such as trace puts the e at the end, which is a very common pattern.
Plus it covers the R, which is a top letter to expose.
I think you just have a better eye for what the answers are after you start, countess. Sometimes I sit there with 3 letters exposed and still nothing jumps out at me!

This worked out okay, except in # 7 I had an answer in mind, but I thought-this isn't common in USA, will they even know what it is/ But I went with it anyway and it was wrong. But close. This is why you do better as I am sure you wouldn't fall into that trap. I just didn't think of the answer till I saw where I had gone wrong.
Plus in #2, I tried a word that it could not possibly be, as one of the exposed letters was not included. Just carelessness. I think you are just more meticulous. 😁

TRACE and BOUGH were my starter and 2nd row eliminator. I had no trouble guessing 3R, and with 1R (top right) it was mostly a case of present tense or past tense.
The blue bits are advertising (annoying)…
I’ve posted the screenshots in the order in which I solved the words, allowing for two solutions in each block of two - if that makes sense.

I try to solve words where the likely letters will rule in or rule out other words; I make them work hard if possible!
With those letters that can’t be included, I have done it once or twice, and kicked myself.

After my first turn, I was sorely tempted to try out what the answer turned out to be.
But as we know, my hunches often lead me astray so I stayed with the script.

Grr. My perfectly reasonable penultimate guess on 3L was wrong. I hadn’t really expected that particular letter to appear twice…
Springyzone, your methodology in the Wordle today was flawless. A stab in the dark can work with the second row; it’s usually too risky and far too wide in its field.
