WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I found this hard going, and was shocked at the end to see the score was good for me.

Again, I had a good dose of luck on this as I was able to solve #3 straight off then I thought #4 was obvious but just after doing it, I realised it could so easily have been something else! But the last letter of that steered me clear of the  word I had had in mind for #8.

This was an unusual octordle in that just about every single one of the more neglected letters got out to party today!😂

I like the aptness of the first word that I solved being “solve”…!

2R couldn’t be anything else but “stoic”. And 2L also led me straight to “vocal” in 3R.

I thought about 4L for a minute before it clicked: “excel”.

3L - since the “e” wasn’t the final letter and the “r” wasn’t second, it was going to be “threw”.

Aha! That “w” gave me 4R.

And the final two words - 1L and 1R - came into view.

I just saw the date on my computer. Would have been my mum's birthday today. She would have been well into her 90s. Hard to imagine. At least the weather looks to be clearing up and it is a bit nicer outside today, we have had a run of rubbishy weather, haven't we!

I really needed that 3rd eliminator. Well, I felt I did, and luckily it pointed the way.

This was a mixed one. Some old friends & some new ones.

It was frustrating for me in that after my first 2 eliminating words, I was able to solve #2 & 1, but only by re using the letters I already had, which did not help as much as I would have liked for the other words.
Then on my 5th turn, finally another letter.
But I came to a bit of a halt, I had quite a few possibilities for some words so I used another eliminator, PRICY.  Helpful.
My biggest surprise though was to find Y in a couple of them but not at the end. Game changer.
I had had #8 pegged as likely strap or staff so I was saved a couple of mistakes there!

The letter that I avoided in Wordle is the one I chose to use in Octordle for the final word. It felt like a redress.

DECRY 🎯 3L had to be this.
VINYL 🎯 With Y in 4th position, this was it.
ABOVE 🎯 3R had the “v”; I knew what it must be.
ALLOT 🎯 Limited slots for “L”; this seemed obvious.
UNION 🎯 Bit of a risk; 1L could have been “onion” instead but I wanted to rule “u” in or out for 2L which would be either “audit” or “admit”. I took a risk that paid off.
AUDIT 🎯 2L - yes, “u” was in.
FLANK 🎯 4L could have been “plank” instead, and I did hesitate before deciding to play the “f”.

Made some mistakes. There were a couple of words there that I solved last and probably should have had a go earlier as I had them tagged.

mistakes #8,  I tried mirth. Logical at the time, just not it.
#3, tried abate, it was agate
#2. tried canal instead of naval. Stupid, stupid guess as canal was one I had thought of early on & it was a possibility then but later words had shown N could not be in the middle and I missed that as I was just looking at my earlier thoughts.
