I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.
I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣
Don't know, just a chesty cough, no appetite (not a BAD thing, for a change.😂) Much worse at night. Not covid.

I had a spot of luck on this. I got 3 letters in my first word and I didn't feel there would be any different vowels in the answer. The first word to pop into my head was false so i just went with it. I liked the word as it also covered S, which is one of my favourite letters.
I had an awful feeling of deja vu on this one, with several of the words. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I only got some of these because I have seen them periodically in the puzzles.
egret, quill (wasn't quill out recently? or maybe it was just a word I had tagged as a possible answer, but it has popped into my mind in recent memory, in any case. And snaky. Also a deja vu feeling.
My starter gave me enough to begin trying out word shapes, and I was particularly lucky in being able to pin down that final letter, as well as ruling out one potential shape.
My “bagel” locked in the L, and helped to determine that it must be _E_AL. No G, which ruled out a few possibilities. It could still have been RENAL, so a bit of luck involved.
It was 50/50 for that second-row word, and fortunately I guessed correctly.
After that, I needed an eliminator. I was able to solve 4L easily, and 1L followed, at least partly because this is an Octordle frequent offender.
4R and 3R were easy enough, each needing just one letter to complete and with enough information to sort out the shape.
I had the first three letters of 2R, with only one possibility.
3L - I now had the final letter, and only one possible shape. That meant I knew the first letter and the vowels as well as the fifth letter, which left just one possibility.
And … I came to the final word - 2L. This is where the wire comes in. Two perfectly logical possibilities presented themselves… Aaagh, I just had to make a guess. I was lucky.
This was today's big shock, score wise, because although this game sort of started okay & I began solving from turn 3 on, I hit a hump towards the end. The game went almost down to the wire.
I made a couple of mistakes on #1. I didn't have much to go on. I would also have made a couple of mistakes on #3 had I not seen they were ruled out by letter placement.
#1, I was originally thinking nanny or canny, for sure, or maybe manky. #3, all I could think of for ages was ebony and then envoy but I could see it could not be either of those. Once I thought of envoy though, the answer came to me.
