WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I couldn’t match your 2, k1ooo, so I will vicariously join your dance and be happy with 3.

Oh, springyzone… 5? If it takes 5, that’s what it takes. Everything depends on those opening two words to get the little green ducks in a row…

Note: I did my Wordle at around 3 am, but fell asleep right in the middle of posting it here. 😴💤🥱🛌💤

It could have a lot worse. There were traps everywhere.

springyzone, I’m not surprised by your score; I made lucky guesses and it could so easily have plunged me into more and more guesses.

I had been watching some news stories and saw Trump on stage, so my starter was STAGE.  That gave me 4 letters in the right position.  It was then guessing time.

I suspect you knew it would end in ATE and were tossing up between SLATE & SKATE with your eliminator.  If neither of them, then SPATE.

Since you have both done it, I can type in the open!

I was peeved by this!

I still had a sheet of paper in front of me from ysterday and I thought-deja vu, same possibilities. The list goes stare, stake, stage etc but I thought... I am sure yesterday it ended up being skate when i tried stake. Nope, it won't be the same pattern today. More likely to be an ea word. Wrong again. Bit cheeky!

I fell for the trap in 2R (your #4, springyzone). Ah well. Sometimes the luck is just not there.

After my second turn, I was pretty sure the pattern would be _ROWN, so I used Brick as an eliminator for turn 3. Just in case it was KNOWN. Even so, it would not eliminate all, so I was in luck really.

Some of these I got from past experience. # 6 & #8 for example.
I originally had #2 pegged as either cause or pause, so when I got a G, I had to rethink.

I feel as if #3 and #5 have been classic staples since forever, maybe because they know there are several alternatives grill/frill/krill etc
