WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

This was another one where I hesitated a bit before guessing.

By turn 4, I felt I needed another eliminator. I had already uncovered C so I went with perky.
I had my fingers crossed on my last turn though that it wasn't crave.

Don't worry as you had it right in the bit underneath.

The funny thing is my eyes went to it immediately a moment ago. I thought-crick? I don't remember a crick? The ck looks familiar though. Then I saw crock in the bit underneath and thought-ah just a typo.

I was pleased actually as I make mistakes all the time. Every post (I can't type and my letters are wearing off the keyboard.) I have to remember by saying-T is the first blank one at the top, R is the next blank one along to the left & E the one after that. But I still get it wrong & you never seem to make typos!

Now didn't we just have haunt as the answer a little while ago, or am I hallucinating?
In any case, I figured today's offering was probably daunt or taunt. No way to know so I just had a go.
Could have gone either way, but I got lucky.

This started out quite well for me, with the first few answers seeming to be obvious.

Things took a turn towards the end though. I had been fancying weedy or perky for #6 and once the W was ruled out, had a go at perky as it covered some good new letters at least.
At the end, had to rethink, but it was obviously between merry or ferry. I was lucky.

PARER 🎯🍀 could have been rarer or darer

WOOLY 🎯 Abomination of abominations, how matted and stench-laden is this spelling!

After “eagle”, I had three labels left to solve. Nothing looked clear-cut. Let me show you…

3R: _ O _ L_ If either letter duplicated, L couldn’t be in 1st or last position. O couldn’t be in last position.

3L: _ _ _ _ _ with E and R yellow. The E was in neither 1st position nor last position. The R was not in 2nd position.

4L: _ A _ _ _ with E and R yellow. E was neither first nor last.

The one that looked most amenable to solving was 3R. That last letter had to be Y. It was _OLLY

or _OOLY: dolly, folly, jolly, molly, polly, or that abominable US spelling of woolly with only one L.

Risking a guess, I tried “folly” - and ow, with a blank in 4th showing that there was no second O, I knew - with the utmost loathing - that 3R was “wooly”. But first, I punished that panel by leaving it until last. I could now solve 3L, as the F in 1st place gave it away as “ferry”, and 4L was down to three possibilities. I didn't think “darer” at all likely, so I made a guess between P and R for the first letter.

And then … with a face of disgusted hauteur, I completed 3R.
