I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

My first thought as I came to the final word was “polly”, but as it’s an Australian abbreviation, I always consider this an unlikely contender. However, from polly to polyp is only a whisker… and polyp is an Octordle favourite.

Straight in we went with tiara, followed by await. But then I came to a halt. 1L surprised me with its _ _ _ C A pattern. There was no second A; no I; no E. That left me with musca or yucca. I therefore played mould as an eliminator, and that sorted it out.
The rest proceeded without a hitch.

Knowing that one particular letter could not be in the 2nd position and that another letter couldn’t be in the last position ruled out all but four possible answers - and two of them were, I think, too esoteric for Wordle.

It could have been owlet, helot, telos - but I thought the last two unlikely.
Edit: away with the extra owlet.

No wonder you do so well, I have never heard of the word. I'll have to google it now.
Result of a cheeky childhood during which I read voraciously and even submitted a book review of the dictionary. The teacher was amused, luckily.

EXPEL 🎯🍀 could have been wheel, bezel, jewel - and far less likely sheel, mesel, sewel, sweel, wedel.
PLUMP 🎯🍀 could have been plumb
FIZZY 💣
JIFFY 🍀
For 3L, I just had to take a guess. Any of expel, jewel, bezel or wheel seemed likely.
For 1R, the p/b dilemma again required a guess.
For 2L, I had literally no tiles uncovered, neither green nor yellow. The Y and I had not been used, and it could be a _ i _ i _ pattern (bifid was the only one that came to mind) or _ i _ _ y - which i thought more likely.
Possibles were dizzy, fizzy, jiffy, kiddy, fishy. I decided to play fizzy; if it was wrong, it would at least narrow it down to the correct answer. Well, it was indeed wrong, but as I’d planned, it did give me jiffy on the next turn.
