WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordle

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education ๐Ÿคฃ

Once I started solving, it was quite straightforward. I had only one hesitation - with the final word.

Straight in we went with tiara, followed by await. But then I came to a halt. 1L surprised me with its _ _ _ C A pattern. There was no second A; no I; no E. That left me with musca or yucca. I therefore played mould as an eliminator, and that sorted it out.

The rest proceeded without a hitch.

Knowing that one particular letter could not be in the 2nd position and that another letter couldnโ€™t be in the last position ruled out all but four possible answers - and two of them were, I think, too esoteric for Wordle.

I was stuck with the last word. About to try a guess, I paused - and decided to use an eliminator. Itโ€™s just as well, as the word towards which I was leaning would have been wrong.

3rd: tramp. I liked this as it was a possible answer but more to the point, covered some other useful letters. I was hoping the TRA would come in green, but alas. So, not track either.

So I thought... maybe that ratty, they love ratty in octordle... but it could be warty. Fingers crossed.

22 cl.jpgI felt the first 3 answers had a sort of sameness about them. Maybe the pattern.
My 5th word, clump, was a joint eliminator/try. I knew it could easily be something like bluff, fluff etc but thought it was worth the try to uncover C, M, P at least.

My last turn was a guess, with not a lot to go on, but then again, there weren't a lot of useful letters left either, so that narrowed the likely field.

22 ex.jpgI made the mistake of jumping in on turn 6 with sigma for #3. Of course, straight after it, I could see what it had to be, but too late! And of course, #5 was not joker, it was poker. I think it normally is poker. Next time though, will I be game to go poker or will they ring the changes?
I was able to give myself the satisfaction of making poker wait till last turn though.

For 3L, I just had to take a guess. Any of expel, jewel, bezel or wheel seemed likely.

For 1R, the p/b dilemma again required a guess.

For 2L, I had literally no tiles uncovered, neither green nor yellow. The Y and I had not been used, and it could be a _ i _ i _ pattern (bifid was the only one that came to mind) or _ i _ _ y - which i thought more likely.

Possibles were dizzy, fizzy, jiffy, kiddy, fishy. I decided to play fizzy; if it was wrong, it would at least narrow it down to the correct answer. Well, it was indeed wrong, but as Iโ€™d planned, it did give me jiffy on the next turn.

alien. You would never have guessed.

Second word though was a deviation of sorts-scout.
I decided to change it slightly as I had scion in mind as a possibility.
After that, it was a case of rethinking but it was fairly obvious.

As you can see, after turn 1, #6 was a wordle replica. I decided to go with the normal shout though as I didn't feel I could outright guess on turn 2 & H could be more useful across the other spots. If it turned out to be scion, I'd be using the C anyway.
I was not amused by #5.
I fell at the last hurdle-water instead of eater.
I felt as if some of these words were definitely repeats.
