I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

This could have been a word along the lines of _i_on, or __ion. Possibilities: ippon, bidon, bison, piñon, ninon, inion, onion, union… of which I thought bison, onion and union were the most likely.

After “trawl”, I could either take a stab at 3R or use an eliminator. Luckily “mulch” was correct, and that gave me “music”, which gave me “hasty”.
“Nerdy” seemed likelier than “nervy”.
We’ve just had “jiffy”, so I tried “fizzy”.

This was one of life's disappointments.
I knew I was in trouble almost immediately as after my first 2 turns, there was nothing I could see that was a clear cut certainty. With hindsight, I should have worked on #8 more but I didn't think of the answer till after my third turn.

I had to solve 2L (filth) before I could solve 1L (swath).
I needed 1L (swath) solved before I could solve 4R (dryly - ruling out wryly).
Thankfully 1R (clump) and 3L (choir) ruled out moist and hoist for 2R, so that I was left with joist. In turn 2R (joist) ruled out train for 3R, and I was left with trait.

F and V - these were the 🃏 letters on this Octordle.
Firstly… part of my reason for using MINTY as an eliminator was to rule out an S_ATE pattern in 1R. I still had to guess between stave and stake when the time came…
1L - well, that M from the eliminator stopped me from trying a mistaken AMPLE.
2L was simply a guess; I don’t know why I chose to try BUNNY rather than FUNNY, although I rejected DUNNY on the Australian colloquialism basis. At least I knew it couldn’t be FUNKY; 1R had ruled out a K.
3L - I might have felt “poor F; I rejected you on 2L so let’s give you a chance here”. Who knows!
However… 1R also ruled out K for 4L, so no BRAKE; it had to be BRAVE.
I’d planned to play OLIVE for 3R. The lack of V as evidenced from BRAVE ruled it out, and it was obviously ELIDE.
