WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I'm tired tonight and this was slow going. It started okay, sort of, but part way through, I ran out of inspiration and used cadge as eliminator.

Spoiler
19 cl.jpgMy brain desperately wanted to play sauna for #5 and nerdy for #2 but I could see key letters were absent so I had to slap my hands and think again.
I couldn't decide between swoop and scoop for #3 till after I used the eliminator and it helped with #1 blink, bling, cling, clink and #5 squad/squab

This turned out easier but not through skill, I think the letters were just more helpful.

I did have a moment where I thought I must be hallucinating.

#6, 7 & 8 came easily then later I was looking at #5, suspecting a 2/4 pattern (o/a) at first, though R had been out already. Then I thought maybe polak, till suddenly I thought... surely this wouldn't be polka again, would it? I bet it is, but wasn't that just out? I had to go back to have a look as I thought I was dreaming.
#2 would have been repay till I noticed the P was not in 3rd spot.
And #1, early on I was thinking moist, foist, joist, luckily hoist was out of play.
In the end, I went for joist only because they often like J words and I often get caught out picking the other choice. haha!! Not today, octordle makers!

It was immediately obvious after the eliminator that 3L was polka (aaaaagh!) and 3R was brute. The B was pivotal in solving the next three words (boule, bosun, plumb).

It wasn’t until row 8, when I solved 1R (alpha), that I could rule out caper for 2L in favour of recap.

1L was still going to require a guess between foist and joist; hoist and moist had already been ruled out. Luckily my guess was correct.

I didn't get anywhere fast today.

shout. I was actually thinking it might be the shape, share, shake etc collection of uncertainties.😂

3rd I tried fudge (maybe something like frame, decay, farce, badge... and others

So by turn 4, I felt I was looking at GRA_E

Maybe grace, grave, grape, graze. Awful, as I only had 3 turns left.

Next eliminator, capiz, which I was not sure would be allowed, but it was.

Finally, finally got there.

It's under 60, at least. One must stay positive.🤣

20 cl.jpg

I managed to avoid trouble on the first few turns (though it could have been leech on #7), but then nothing else looked like a sure thing.

I was terribly tempted to try umber for #6 but decided another eliminator would be more useful. I chose privy as C had been out, but in any case, V wasn't very useful.

There were a few spots where I was debating W/M/B/D but luckily they resolved themselves as the game went on.

At the end, gorge or forge.

I was a bit surprised by #3 but couldn't see what else it could be.

But by turn 5, I was stumped. #2 swell or spell?

#5 daunt, gaunt etc

#7 scoop or smock

So.. eliminator.. dumpy, an old favourite of mine.

#5 surprised me, but not much else it could be.

Got to the end, #4 gaunt or vaunt, I'll go for gaunt, I thought. I actually started to type it in then saw the J.

What did I say just yesterday? They like J. Worked for me today, in any case.

Possible answers: brake brave drake drape erase frame grade grape grave graze

Even the best eliminator would only bring it down to four. I had a gut instinct that it was GRA_E, but again, there wasn’t an eliminator that would have corralled the word definitely. I decided to use vamps as it would deal with frame and erase as possibilities, and rule in/out brave, grave, drape, grape.

I was pleased to see that it was indeed _RAVE, and as my gut instinct had already been inclined towards G as the first letter, I jumped in with my 50/50 guess.
