I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Eliminator word was FLOAT. It helped, but after my 3rd word, it could have been a few different words.

Immediately, I knew which possibilities I must eliminate… and after row 2, only one letter could fit into the first position.

It’s nothing out of the ordinary: merely a logical matter of narrowing down the possibilities.

Bottom left was obvious after row 3, and so was top left. With the yellow consonant appearing on top right, I strongly suspected its position and therefore a reusing of a particular letter, which must mean the word was —. (Discreet dash to signify the word.)
And that meant that the 4th letter in bottom right couldn’t be x (where x signifies the letter I mean). This narrowed down bottom right to three possibilities, one of which was highly unlikely and another which I’d not previously seen used in Quordle - so I went for the most obvious word.

TRACE was my starter, and I used SLIMY as my second. This helped rule out some possibilities and I could confidently solve 4L and then 1L.
I took a bit of a risk with 1R but fortunately my guess was correct. That meant 3L didn’t start with a particular letter which led me to guess that word.
And so on.

This is a word I think I might have tried a few days back in maybe octordle? and it wasn't the answer.
When I had 3 letters exposed, I could think of 2 other words it could be. One I eliminated as more the sort they would choose for lewdle and the other I eliminated as I thought it might be more of an Australian expression and these Wordle setters are in New York.
