I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Wordle was satisfactory. My gut feeling was drawing me towards a possible word )not the answer), but there were - well, at least 20 possibilities after my starter, so it wasn’t worth the risk of just leaping in with a word that wouldn’t do much to eliminate other possible answers. Instead, I played an eliminator that would narrow it down.

The word which I was originally considering was TOPAZ, but with TALON, TABOO, TOOTH, and many others all jostling for consideration, it would have been foolish to use it as a guess.

I made a guess for 3R (#6) - a risk worth taking, I thought, and mama mia, was I right!

Making that early guess with TONIC immediately gave me the next two words; that meant a nice low score even if I messed up later.
I had little choice but to use an eliminator at that point; at least it revealed enough for me to continue.

I took three risks quite early on (rows 3, 4 and 5). They weren’t huge risks, but had I guessed incorrectly, it would have added 1-3 additional rows to this Octordle.

Had I tried “bleat”, at least I’d have known 1L was “plank”. I’d also have ruled out “coper”… but I’d still have been faced with corer/cover/cower. It’s the nature of this puzzle, and pure luck will always play its part.

I was out yesterday but I've done them today!

I was pleased with today's results.
After my first turn, I suspected my second yellow might go in spot 2, which would probably mean the word would have to start with S or K. So I just went with my normal second word eliminator. It didn't solve the dilemma but I moved my suspicions for that letter to 4th spot with a Y ending & tried the next word out as it had several good letters. I got lucky!

I am pleased with the score but the game was a bit frustrating as I wasn't quite game to take a risk early on.

I went with my usual second choice as some of the letters may have been in the answer.
My initial impulse was to try snack (I don't know why, but I like to have S covered early if I can)
If I had done that, I would have solved it in 3, but overall, I felt I didn't have enough info after turn 1 to take a guess.

Bit of luck here. I was able to solve 3L on the second turn. I think otherwise my score would have been well into the 60s as it went down almost to the wire.
Had to use another eliminator further down (dowry) plus made a mistake on number 7.
So overall, very happy to have managed 58.😂

Okay, have done the extreme.
I had to go really slowly and carefully, instead of like a bull at a gate as I usually do, because sometimes I miss words in this one, run out of turns. But I knew I had to come on here, so I had to try harder.😂
As it was, I went down to the wire.

I made a mistake on #1 (I tried rodeo) and even towards the end, I had no idea if the answer would be rover/rower or roger so with only 2 turns left, I tried an eliminator (wager).
Biota was a bit of an unusual one, haven't seen that word out before or not lately, but after solving #4, I could see that was all it could be.
