I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

My daily Octordle score wasn’t as good as the extreme… and I was lucky more than once. I have the feeling of an unearned achievement award.

Yes, “biota” is not a word I’ve seen before in the Wordle-type games, but I was happy to see it popping up here.
I always think of the real brain-work starting when I choose the eliminator; it has to take account of the uncovered letters from the starter. But it’s also luck. Everything can go wrong on that second row!
I laughed at your description of being a bull at the gate. 🐂🌉

My problem is if I deviate from shout, I have to keep reminding myself of what letters have not been covered. Otherwise I can assume all vowels and s,h,t are exposed when they are not.

So … another day, and I’m still getting over that virus. Also, I’ve done something more to my left knee - which means even more tentative walking. No tangos for me just yet, darn it.

Logically I should have used an eliminator with at least 2 vowels in it.

Because I got so lucky on turn 1, I could see where the yellow had to go, so that was really 3 greens.
But I needed to narrow down what the first and last letters were. I thought the letters H/O/U were unlikely contenders, so went with a different eliminator.

This is another one where the lower score surprised me. It started okay with one word leading to the next but I made a mistake on #2 towards the end.
Sorry to hear you're still not well. You probably need a day or so of just taking it easy.
My daughters and families just got back from a cruise to NZ last weekend and just about all of them are or were ill. One tested positive to covid and although all the others have tested neg, I'd be sure that is what they had.
Most worried about one grandson who has only eaten a few icypoles and half a subway in nearly a week. Well, quarter of a subway as he was given half of one and ate half of that. Hopefully at least on the mend.
How is your mother doing?

SpoilerI only had E & R & O and tried error. After that, I knew it had to be gorge.
It doesn't matter much, but I left out saying O. And it is annoying me.
