WALEED ALY GRILLED MALCOLM TURNBULL OVER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FUNDING
Waleed Aly's blistering editorial on the level of funding and attention the Government pays to the prevention and support of Domestic Violence in Australia was a sobering and extremely important in-depth look at the issue - the likes of which is rarely seen on Australian broadcast television, much less the free-to-air networks.
Mr Aly lists his religion as sunni muslim.
The Qur'an:
Qur'an (4:34) - "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great." Contemporary translations sometimes water down this word, but it is the same one used in verse 8:12 and clearly means 'to strike'.
Qur'an (38:44) - "And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with it, and do not break your oath..." Allah telling Job to beat his wife
Next week The Project will feature a special studio guest. Ivan Milat will talk about his intention to start up a company that takes back-packers on guided tours of the Bangalo State Forest.

What I find offensive is a person whose user manual orders him to inflict violence on a female if the circumstances warrant it yet that same person has the gall to act as the champion of those who suffer domestic violence.
The Qur'an is the primary scripture of the faith of Islam. It is the single most important reference for all matters of faith, social practice, the contemplation of law and the understanding of the Divine. It is also a direct link to Islam's beloved prophet, Muhammad, the man who both received as well as first disseminated the holy message of the text.
Likewise the Torah - which also precribes violence against women if the circumstances warrant it (e.g. Leviticus 9 If a priest's daughter defiles herself by promiscuity, she defiles her father; she must be burned up." ) It is is the primary scripture of the faith of Judaism It is the single most important reference for all matters of faith, social practice, the contemplation of law and the understanding of the Divine. It is also a direct link to Judaism's beloved prophet, Moses, the man who both received as well as first disseminated the holy message of the text.
Would you argue that this makes it offensive for anyone of the Jewish faith to speak out against violence towards women?

And of course lets not forget the good ole bible!
In fact, if by Village's understanding, anyone who is religious and follows whatever book their religion espouses, should just keep their mouths shut.
Because that , in Villages mind, is the more important element of this discussion than a woman a week being murdered. Apparently we can deal with a womans murder bbecause someones religion overshadows this.
Ridiculous racist nonsense.

When you see an article written about an interview, TV appearance Tony Abbot has been done.. does it mention he is a Roman Catholic everytime?
Is his religion refered to every time he announces a new policy or Budget measure?
I should mention that it was I who identified Aly as a sunni muslim. I researched his background. It was not the article I posted that identified Aly as a sunni muslim.

I know that. I can't see that there is any rational reason why you would choose to do that.
Can I quote any article about Abbott, and add my own 'mad monk' comments to it?

Religion and race are in no way connected. You lost all credibility when you played the R card.

Racist and ingnorant.
Tell me, Village, exactly what section of the Koran actually tells an Islamic man that he has the right to murder his wife?
I would also be interested to know what the statistic is for race related murder of women by their partners. How many of these murders are actually conducted by Muslim men?
Surely you would know the answers given that you are so adamant in belief that, as a Muslim, Aly has no right to speak up for the protection of women in this country.

Go for it. In Oz we enjoy a certain amount of freedom so don't hold back.

I know you have asked that a few times she-el, but give Village a break - it might take Village days to digest the dilemma of such a common sense question. I'm sure eventually Village may have an answer for you.
Buy don't hold your breath lol...
