WALEED ALY GRILLED MALCOLM TURNBULL OVER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FUNDING

Waleed Aly's blistering editorial on the level of funding and attention the Government pays to the prevention and support of Domestic Violence in Australia was a sobering and extremely important in-depth look at the issue - the likes of which is rarely seen on Australian broadcast television, much less the free-to-air networks.

Not content to simply file the report and move on with the regular to-ings and fro-ings of the show, Aly continued his push on the subject on The Project last night, grilling Communications MinisterMalcolm Turnbull in the Liberal MPs post-Budget appearance.

Mr Aly lists his religion as sunni muslim.

The Qur'an:

Qur'an (4:34) - "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great." Contemporary translations sometimes water down this word, but it is the same one used in verse 8:12 and clearly means 'to strike'.

Qur'an (38:44) - "And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with it, and do not break your oath..."  Allah telling Job to beat his wife

Next week The Project will feature a special studio guest. Ivan Milat will talk about his intention to start up a company that takes back-packers on guided tours of the Bangalo State Forest.

So you're basing your comments on assumptions you have made without any facts about Aly included.

Do you pull bits out of ancient texts to accuse Christians or Jews of the following a user manual that states they should beat or kill their wives?

Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow)

2:2 This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -

No assumption on my part. It is the Book about which there is no doubt.

I didn't write the damn thing. You will note that there is no mention in the koran that the believers are given permission in 2015 to depart from its teachings. Also, the koran is the immutable word of allah and is not open to interpretation. There is no doubt in the user manual.

What user manual were those 37 men who have beaten their wives to death so far this year used?

One appears to have been a middle eastern couple so lets assume they were muslim. We'll discount him then shallwe?

But what about the other 36?

Someone said in another thread that "Australia is predominantly Christian"  (which I disagree with BTW), so it follows that their manual was probably the bible.

but this is about people who openly/officially

represent their religious councils.

so what do you actually know about those 'other 36'?

Hugh Hefner has demonstrated by his own behaviour that he has no respect for women.

And that proves my point. Whether you own a flesh empire or you have a user manual that downplays the role of women you have no credibility when commenting on certain issues.

Nor is there any mention in the bible that believers will be given permission to depart from it's teachings in 2015 or any other year.

It stands to reason if one religion is allowed to evolve so are other religions.

Yes, the Catholic University is thinking of offering a scholarship dedicated to persistence in using many tactics to flush out Jews.

But you said I rely on assumptions which you know is not the case.

There is no mention of dispensations in the Bible either.

In the end, everyone is the keeper of their own conscience, and Waleed Aly has declared publicly that he does not believe violence against women is OK.

Is he lying?  If so  why would he, as Muslim, risk the wrath of his God by telling an untruth ?

If he is not lying, why would he, as a Muslim  risk the wrath of his God for contradicting  the Koran unless he believes it is not incumbant on him to take every word written in it literally?

Have you ever asked him?

Have you ever asked any Muslim how they cope with the dichotomy between what is written in the Koran and what is reasonable and appropriate in this day and age?

Have you ever asked any Jew the same question regarding the Torah?

(and yes, I do know Christians use the excuse that the new testament superceds the Old Testament which therefore need not be taken literally.)
