The whale nursery. Every year whales come in to raise their young along this coastline.

Had lunch here today - Proudfoot's boat house.

Excellent food from local produce and lovely staff.

Out in the middle of farmland are remnants of an old volcano which formed some waterfalls at Hopkins river.

And the most interesting of all - Middle Island.

The native penguin population was dwindling so someone had an idea to use dogs to mind/protect them against predators.

Since 2006,  Maremma sheepdogs protect the penguins on middle island.

They take turns in pairs and it inspired the movie - Oddball
