Sorry to totally theive your idea Lurker, and I know this is really not the most interesting of topics but my washing machine has carked it 😞 I have a budget of $650 to spend and it has to be at least 6.5-7.5 kgs. Is there anyone around who considers themselves knowledgable on this topic, or what machine to you have and what are it's pros and cons in your opinion. All advice/opinions welcome 🙂

Fisher and Paykel 7.5kg - really happy how it doesn't leave fluff on the clothes

My washing machine died recently (same week as the dishwasher ) and am on the hunt for another front loader.
I am looking at getting the same one as Ash is getting.... a friend bought it but now wants a top loader as they want a shorter cycle for their sports gear.
Front loaders are fine and if you find that lost sock just after you close the door just turn the machine off and it resets itself and you can open the door and start it up again.

Well, I am thrilled with my LG.
Washes well andI usually use the 30 minute quick wash
there was a 7 kilo one, abit cheaper, but this one looked bit nicer as is seemed to have a better quality fitting around the door.
Machine will even give a quick song at the end of the cycle !!

My Bosch F/L has short cycle that i use for my son's protective gear and a freshen up option that's really quick as well, you don't even have to turn it off to open the door (pesky socks) just pause it, not mid cycle of course.

I just remembered something else. We had a Samsung front loader for a while. It had too large a gap between the glass and the opening and small itmes used to find their way into the gap and not wash properly or spin. A small sock could rest under the glass piece and be wet at the end of the cycle.

Thanks so much for your replies everyone 🙂
At this stage I'm leaning towards either a F&P or an LG. It seems that every washing machine repair guy I have spoken to over the last few months (5 or 6 of em) reccommend the Fisher and Paykal for repairability. I've never owned one so am interested to hear from anyone who has one and what they think. I had an LG that lasted me over 10 years so I know they are a decent maker.
I guess it's a toss up between the LG that has LCD screen and no agitator and the F&P that has an agitator and no LCD screen...
I mean in that price range how different can the machines actually be?

I have had only 2 washing machines in 37+ years...firstly a hoover top loader and now a F & P top loader & I`ve had no problems with either:-)

I have an LG, 7.5Kg, front loader. Four star water and energy saver.
I am very happy with the 30 minute quick wash, and I ony use cold water. It washes better than what my old toploader did, but the only trouble I have is my back when bending down to load and unload the washer.
Front loaders are great for people without back problems.

Erica, you can get your machine put on a stand. I have one and no more bending for me.
