Washing persian carpets DIY

Anyone ever done it?

I usually send them all out to be professionally cleaned every few years but it costs a bomb.

I figure I will just do it Turkish style - lay it on the concrete outside, hit it with the hose, spray it with hair shampoo, stomp all over it, rinse off and wait to dry.

Anyone else do this? Or what is your method?

I would use liquid wool wash as well. I have washed ordinary smaller wool rugs with that.

Any type of wool washed in cold water won't shrink.. Hot water would shrink and felt woolen items.

Lukewarm is OK.

You need to lift it at least little bit off the ground; it will not dry if it is on the wet concrete.  The water needs to run out of the rug.   Could you roll it up, tie it with an ocky strap and stand it against a wall?  That way the water would drain off overnight.

Tennis rackets are the best thing for knocking the dirt out of upholstery.

I presume it would work with a rug on the line or a trampoline.

Then Bi carb and a good vacuum?

I'd be wary with DIY.

You tube told me that I really could wash a leather jacket in the washing machine.....

You cant.

Yeah I chucked an old leather skirt in the washing machine once. Went as hard as a rock...
