Watching the news

'Many of us wake up feeling, at best, a little off. We then look at the morning paper, which tells us all the things that have gone wrong in the world in the past 24 hours and we turn on the TV for the latest news so that we know what else has gone wrong. On the way to work the car radio gives us more news about murders, strikes, the infighting of politicians, and 10 reasons why interest rates are going up and our economy is going down. This is interspersed with reports about clogged freeways and road accidents.

During the day we are often surrounded by complaining staff members, clients or members of our family. We return home in the evening to a pile of bills, and then watch the news on TV so we can look at what else has gone wrong since we last checked in.

Then we watch some extraordinary series on TV where the hero lives in a multi-million mansion and is in love with his wife's lover's daughter. We cap this off with a violent murder show before a final look at the late evening news to see what has gone wrong during the day. Then we go to bed and read something to send us off to sleep.

Is it any wonder that most people have such a negative attitude towards everything?'

Re: Watching the news

I don't read the morning paper and the only reason I listen to the news early in the morning is because the radio is also the alarm clock....and most of the time I'm just waiting for the day's weather report.

The radio station Magic 1278 has changed a lot of their presenters and their music too.  Instead of Kevin John and Jane Holmes, they sacked Kevin John and I have to listen to that old fool John Blackman who pushes the wrong buttons, talks ad nauseum about rubbish and whitters on about the weather interstate when all I want to hear is Jane Holmes giving the current local weather temps.  Unfortunately I can't pick up the other radio station I like, and I've discovered many don't have news/weather reports on the hour.

I try not to watch the news on TV at night either as it is so tedious.  First the announcer says his/her piece then they cut to some nonenity 'in the field' who says exactly the same thing with nothing new to add.  Grrrrrr.
