Water Filters

Please post your knowledge, I know nothing. I've mentioned before that my daughter lives in Newman WA and they are spending a fortune on bottled water.

Suggestions?

Re: Water Filters

Yes she asked quite a few people and getting mixed answers from taking the risk to drinking bottled water to getting filters, they don't really want to take risks.

Re: Water Filters

I'm fairly sure they will end up installing filters it is just that knowing what to get is a bit of a minefield.

I don't think that drinking out of plastic water bottles is completely safe either. We have a filter in our fridge so just replace that every few months. In the past I have had friends with filters on their kitchen taps and it just dribbles out.

Re: Water Filters

Even down south the calcium levels are much higher than in the eastern states - we use Brita water filters but for a family of five that would be expensive.

It sounds like some sort of high tech filter fitted to the water sources to their home might be the way to go and professional advice sought for that.  If they have small children, perhaps also talk with their medico for recommendations.

They will probably also need CLR to combat the calcium and lime build ups in toilet bowls and calcium crust around the kettle too.

Yes, my Mum had one installed on her cold tap and the water did just dribble out when the filter was turned on (could use the tap with it turned off and water came out at normal rate).

Re: Water Filters

I can't believe people in Adelaide & Sydney drink tap water. You can smell the chlorine a mile away. In fact I have retched from the smell just taking a shower.

Never been to WA, so can't comment.

However you can install a water filter under the sink, which wil elimate the chlorine and most other nasties. We had one installed when we were living in Sydney. Can't remember the cost, but it was well worth it.

Re: Water Filters

WE had one which was initially installed when the house was built.  It was good at first but in the end even with new filter cartridges the pressure was way too low.

Now it is replaced with one from Bunnings and the flow is very good.  It's easy to buy replacement cartridges from Bunnings too where as before I used to have to order one.

I have seen advertisements for an under sink water filter system fully installed for $250 but it might be more expensive in Newman.
