We're Going To See Philomena Tomorrow

The Movie, that is,

From the TV ads it should be good and I love Dame Judy.

Our closest cinema is the Hayden Orpheum at Cremorne. It's a restored Cinema which first opened in 1935, then fell into decay and was bought and restored to it's old Art Deco beauty in the 1980s.

Went and saw Philomena tonight icy. Not at Cremorne but at Newtown.

Nice enough movie but wasn't rivetting. I was disappointed. Smiley Sad

Apparently it's had bad reviews. I will see it next week.

I went and saw August: Osage County last week. A bit 'stagey' but gees Julia Roberts can act!

Hubby thought I would like Saving Mr Banks and I did, I do like Emma Thompson and loved the original Mary Poppins, but normally only go to the movies once or twice a year because I hate sitting still for long.Woman LOL

Philomena was underwhelming to me - nice but unconvincing.  I respect the Dench-meister enormously.  It was interesting to see Alan Partridge (sorry I forgot his real name) in a non-comedic role.  I thought he was pretty good.

As for Osage County, well, what a bleeped-up family.  I did like Julia R but I thought Meryl S overacted to buggery.   I liked the middle daughter too - again can't think of her name - she was the most normal one in it - and Juliette L, well what can I say, she should stick to her rock band Man Tongue

Totally agree pct.

Streeps acting was shocking. It made the film unbelievable and it competed too much with Roberts acting. I think a less well known actor would have been better.

And even though I LOVE Juliette Lewis that had to be the worst casting ever. She just missed it the whole way.
