Thank you so much e-m, I just checked google images and that's exactly what it is. They appear to grow from bulbs but in the 29 years I've lived here, I've never planted any. They just started sprouting all over the property some years ago and at first I thought they must have been a weed, albeit a very pretty one. I've no idea how they managed to migrate to every garden bed without assistance but I just let them grow wild as the flowers are far too beautiful to pull out.
