Abstract Photography

Like abstract art, Abstract photography concentrates on shape, form, colour, pattern and texture. The viewer is often unable to see the whole object. The focus is often only a small part of it. Viewers of an abstract shot may only know the essence of the abstraction or understand it by what is implied. Normally the object or image will not be a literal view of the subject. The subject tends to come second to seeing…

  • Patterns.
  • Textures.
  • Angles.
  • Proximity (closeness and distance from the subject).
  • Crop (especially of segments or parts of the whole).
  • Colour variation.
  • Tonal variation.
  • Hard light rendering of the subject.
  • Soft light rendering of the subject.
  • Shape (2D).
  • Form (3D).
  • Curves.
  • Geometry.
  • Focus and depth of field.
  • Blur.
  • Expression of movement.

Re: Weekly photo challenge. Theme is ABSTRACT

Thanks friends for the praise of that girl/fruit pic. I must confess that I think abstract is a bit easier for me because my pictures are often average or dud (no matter how attractive or intriguing the subject). The duds can be abstract without any help from me!  That being said, I do have some beauties, too!

When I saw the theme I thought whacko I can post a weird webcam pic... then tcm got in before me in post 24... then I realised "great minds" and all that, so here is my wacky auto-abstract!

greencat's pic reminded me of the draw function in paint and that I could deface perfectly good photos:
