They can work.  My ex attended a methadone clinic on daily basis before work initially.   He was eventually allowed 'take-aways' where he only needed to attend twice a week.

He had no problem with accessing a rehab centre.  He was unemployed at the time.   WHOS was the rehab place - are they still around?

Yes, they can but they don't work for everyone first try.

I don't know if WHOS are still around or not. Did they administer a methodone program at all?

It seems like a good idea to offer programs to people in the community so they can keep their jobs and life intact, or at least pick up the pieces..

I think they did.   I know there are quite a few methadone clinics in Sydney.

Nobody has broken into my home poddy and you use that as an anology all the time when speaking about refugees etc,

I am simply asking about welfare reform and after reading your first post I wondered how you feel about indigenous people in an area where there is no work as far as welfare reform goes?

Donna, I wouldn't feel any different if a person in that situation was green, purple, striped or brindle. All people should be treated on an equal footing.

Do you feel that some should be disadvantaged/advantaged according to race colour or creed?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

No, I've never seen any mention of anything like that.

I don't go looking for that sort of stuff either so would only see if it was in news.

It concerns me greatly the anger so many have for people with addiction issues. None of us have any idea of the lives people have had. Many come on here wailing about how children are treated by their families and how something should be done. Then comment on the lack of resources to intervene. Those same children then grow up troubled by their life experiences and for many the only way to get through each day is to dull the pain. Most have not been taught coping skills either. So it's all good and fine lambasting them for their addiction but none of us in the position to judge. Using the same logic here we should stop medical costs and sickness benefits for anyone who has had a heart attack, stroke, cancer or any illness caused by lifestyle choices.

It's good and fine to say its their own fault and nobody forced an addict to become an addict. Do you honestly think people set out to become so addicted to something that their life is as good as destroyed? If anyone took the time to learn about any type of addiction you would learn that each person is different and they all have their own stories of why they are doing or did what they did. None of us are judge and jury on how anyone else lives their life.

And to those complaining about their taxes being wasted on these people, do some research on where your taxes are really going and who is actually ripping off the taxpayer. And it wouldn't go astray to learn some compassion.

I disagree.

What about alcoholics? Them too?

Not true.

Most addicts relapse time and time again. Very few manage to stay sober their entire lives.
