What a way to motivate, not

HE CERTAINLY doesn’t beat around the bush.

The head of the Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ) has slammed residents of the Sunshine State, saying they’re too fat and drink too much, as the group lobbies for health reforms ahead of the state election later this month.

Dr Rudd also said unhealthy meals at school tuckshops should also be scrapped to prevent the next generation developing poor diet habits.

“The school tuckshops are supposed to be healthy places, but the reality is, they (aren’t).”

“We’ve all seen tuckshop ladies and there’s a reason why they’ve got tuckshop arms.”

Apart from being too fat, Queenslanders also drank too much, Dr Rudd said.

He has since apologised for the "tuckshop arms" remark.

Re: What a way to motivate, not

No, there probably are  the odd parent(s) here and there that chuck money at their kids for school lunches from the canteen every day. Those kids most likely have a poor diet at home as well.

Most kids don't have lunch from the school canteen everyday, its a once a week treat.

There are definitely healthy eating programs implemented in school canteens and have been for several years now.

Sounds like a comment from someone out of date with what goes on in the real world.

I don't think the food available in canteens in Australia is near as bad as in US school canteens.. all chips, nuggets and pizza... apart from those that let Jamie Oliver in to change the menus! Most of those kids ate chips, nuggets and pizza at home as well.

That was gross.  Even after the children saw what the nuggets were made of, they still ate them.

I doubt that if they made any changes after Oliver left they didn't last long.

Re: What a way to motivate, not

Just checked.

Veggie pizza, cheesy pasta.
No soft drinks allowed now.

Everything has changed in the last year or two.

Sushi is also served.

No, not the last year or two.  School canteen offerings have been changing for years.  Soft drinks have been out for at least 20 years in many areas.

Re: What a way to motivate, not

I thought that school canteen food was already in the process of changing?  I used to love helping out in the Primary school canteen (no tuckshop arms here) and it was heading that way certainly. The biggest treats were pikelets at morning tea or a ham and cheese melted on half a roll.

Wraps were coming in and sausage rolls and nuggets were on their way out and that was some years ago.

I know that softdrinks were sold a the highschool canteen but certainly not in primary.

I remember school dinners in England. A hot meal and they were healthy but that all changed to really junk food.

ref .....

I think it's motivation.

I hate walking, will only walk if I take the dog out or am hunting, and then I will walk miles and miles.

.................................................................................................................................................................................

I disagree.....WRONG! even

DISCIPLINE..........not motivation

Discipline is maintaining a regime.

Motivation is getting up and starting it.

Re: What a way to motivate, not

Next time in supermarket take note of aisle dedicated to soft drink.

How many teaspoons of sugar in a bottle/can of soft drink????

It's criminal how many cartons of this human killing stuff people load into their trolleys and buy.....how can they possibly believe/think that this is the best treat to give kids and adults for a special occasion, let alone any day of the week?

Processed Sugar is a KILLER in our bodies.

We do not need this stuff.

Also, we should eat/consume based on NUTRITION ....not on taste

Funny you mention that.

Just went down the shops.

3 litres of soft drink, pub squash, lemonade, for, $1, yes, one dollar.

No, I didn't buy any LOL

BUT the way drink has come down in price, its no wonder we drink more.

I am not disputing the definitions of words.

If you want to lose weight you have to be disciplined.e.g. You just GO and exercise.....you don't try several motivation techniques.....procrastinate....then exclaim "OH! Nothing motivated me today and look it's too late now I will have another go with a new motivation technique tomorrow".....meanwhile=NO discipline and NO exercise.

The approach to take with what to consume is simple too. When you are hungry - eat! Before you put food you want to eat in your mouth ask "Do I want this?" (answer will undoubtedly be, YES!) Then ask "Do I need this?" answer might be yes or no.........If it is a yes then have the necessary portion, depending on whether weight loss or weight maintenance. If a no....then you have to be disciplined! If you recognise that you only want a taste then you might have a 'taste' a half teaspoon......but if you did this 20 times every day then this is not motivation, is it? ....and it sure as heck is not 'discipline'!!

It is all about discipline.....but perhaps about being honest with yourself as well
