What about oils?

Do you use different oils for different things?

Generally i use Olive Oil - can't say I've ever bothered to find out the difference between cold pressed, extra virgin ior just the regular stuff?

I buy in 20 litre drums so just get the "regular stuff"

deep fry in canola oil though\\

so what olive oil is better do youn think?

and i use flaxseed oil for my stuff - just cos i was told to by the MP dude - but????

Joz, simple, but effective :smileyhappy:

when buying the stuff, i simply select the cheapest lightest coloured olive oil on the shelf for cooking

i've got this notion - lighter the colour the better for you - dunno if it actually is - just sounds feasible, lol

Signatures suck.

Re: What about oils?

Generally, the lighter the colour, the lighter the flavour for olive oil, so it is easier to use in more things. Without everything tasting too olivy.

Re: What about oils?

The lighter the colour the less pure it is.  Keep the dark olive oil for dressings and the light stuff for frying.

Re: What about oils?

I refuse to use canola (rapeseed) oil as it is carcinogenic when overheated or burnt (google transfats if interested).

Re: What about oils?

Smiley LOL  Good one Allie.

I saw Dr Oz mention 4 healthy combinations of food the other day.

In other words they go well together, assists in absorbtion of the goodness in them.

Olive oil  with  Brussel Sprouts

Apple  with  Dark Chocolate

Greentea  with  Lemon

Pink Grapefruit  with  Avocado

Can do some creative recipes out of those. Smiley Happy

Olive oil  with  Brussel Sprouts I think he was pulling your leg about this one - NO ONE would reccommend Brussel Sprouts in any combination!

Apple  with  Dark Chocolate Well that has credibility...

Greentea  with  Lemon

Pink Grapefruit  with  Avocado has he tasted grapefruit?????

Re: What about oils?

Olive oil should only be used for cold uses, like dressing on a salad.

Otherwise use coconut oil, as it has a high temp tolerance.

Sesame oil ( and other high flavoured oils) use when specifically needed for the recipe taste.
