Gay Waterhouse has a runner and her Dad Bart does not for the first time in years, maybe a good sign and changing of the guard.
I like Faulkner.

I am glad you enjoyed the day.
My only memory will be that poor horse that broke down mid race and had to be put down because of injury caused by stress.

Very sad. I'm sure the punters were oblivious to this as they collected their winnings or drowned their sorrows. But hang on - horses love to race, it's inate, the racing industry employs a lot of people, the horses are treated better than most, blah blah blah.
I remember years ago attending a large picnic jumps meeting - horse breaks a bone landing from a jump - it was like a rifle shot - horse shot, people sad for one minute then back to the bookies and the bars before the next race.

Just happy I left my money in my pocket.
Not keen on jumps races, too many beautiful animals injured and killed.

Thanks for the nice comments re the pic, folks ๐
I felt really bad for poor Vemera, the horse that had to be put down. I didn't read about it til this morning, they obviously keep that sort of thing out of the spotlight during the event.
Poor horses they've suffered so much in the service of humankind.
