I watch quite a few cooking shows and I wish I could use knives like they do. I would love to be able to go chopchopchopchop instead of chop...chop...chop...chop like I do, I get there in the end but wish I was a little more flashy with my knives :^O
What about you?

What cooking skill would you like to improve on?
I don't have any cooking skills so there is nothing to improve on.
I suppose I could improve my cataloguing skills for the 15 or 16 take away menus I keep in the kitchen drawer for all the cafes and restaurants that are within a 5 minute walk from my home.

Cooking rice on the stove....
put rice in a sieve and rinse with cold water, then put in saucepan. Put your fingertip on the rice and fill the pot slowly with cold water until it reaches your first finger joint., bring to the boil and when tunnels start appearing in the rice, turn the element to the lowest, put the lid on and leave it for 10 mins. You can turn the element off and leave it for a bit longer instead of using the lowest setting. Take off the lid and fluff with a fork...Taa Daa!

Bump! Why not try cooking for yourself? I think you said that your weight was a little heavy. My dinner tonight was some steam fresh fish and vegetables. They went straight into the microwave :^O
I do love cooking though at times and I collect good recipes.

joono I am the worlds worst cook.
I seem to burn everything.
I have cast iron pots and pans and then I tried the copper stuff and also a set of scanpan and all stainless steel but everything sticks to the bottom and tastes horrible.

I must say I am looking forward to the colder weather because I bought a slow cooker a couple of years ago and I find that a good way to cook stuff.
I just throw in a kilo of frozen vegies from Aldi, a cup of red lentils, and some bacon bones or lamb chops and some cut up potatoes and one of the packet thingies from the supermarket and it does taste nice.
And I haven't really burnt anything badly in the slow cooker just dried things out a bit too much.

I'd like to cook for you Bump. Don't put your veggies in the slow cooker with the lamb. The frozen veggies don't need to be cooked at all, they just need a zap in the microwave to make them hot.
I could make you a mean shepherds pie for winter 🙂

I made a fabulous vegetarian Sheppards Pie. 😄
Quorn vege mince.
Using a food processor grate 1 large zuccini and 2 carrots.
Chop garlic & onion
Chopped parsley.
In a huge saucepan cook chopped onions in oil. When soft add the Quorn mince and chopped garlic and stir for a few min's. Add the grated vegs and cook for 5 min's, stirring. Add a bottle of Dolmio's.
Simmer with lid on.
In the meantime cook potatoes and sweet potato and mash with lots of butter and pepper and salt.
Place Quorn mix in a large casserole dish. Dollop the mash on top, sprinkle with grated cheese and heat up in the oven.
No animals were harmed during this demonstration. 😄

I forgot to say I add half a cup of Basmati rice to stretch out the dish. If you add rice, you'll need to add half a Dolmio jar of water too.

I did Pods, I did add bicarb on one particular occasion, and the souffle rose magnificently (in the oven) and then proceeded to exquisitely mimic most graphically, Mt. St. Helens .. while still in the oven ... :_|

I might try the shepherd's pie .... hopefully, that won't rise at all ... 😐
