If I only had what I see on TV - re Trump and guns - to make a judgement I'd think they were nuts.
I've only a met a few and they seem very nice, but some of them do think America is superior to the rest of the world and we couldn't survive without them. LOL
We had an american family living next door when I was around 12. There was a girl my age and she was great. Her mother however was a dreadful snob and when a popular doll her daughter owned finally came to Australia, my mother said she would buy me one. When I mentioned it to the neighbour, she told me that was impossible. I said it wasn't as there was an advertisement in the newspapers about it. The mother gave me an angry look and told me I was mistaken! She was really nasty and rude.
One thing I couldn't grasp when I was a kid (after watching The Mickey Mouse Club on TV, was when I asked the girl what Disneyland was like she told me she had never been there. I thought everyone in America went to Disneyland. 🙂

Compared to other nations, the U.S. by far spends more foreign aid than anyone else. Germany is the next largest donor, but the U.S. spends over $10 billion a year more than this nation.

Well, I think Americans have somehow let themselves get distracted to the extent that they have unwittingly allowed huge corporations to own their country. The medical sytstem and the Fed are two examples.

The average for all wealthy nations is 0.3%, the US gives 0.2%, but we are $10 billion ahead of the next guy.
What every American should know about US foreign aid (brookings.edu)
There have been many positive results achieved globally with the amounts we have historically given. The list below is not the results of just US, but of all countries' aid. I would say, though, that without the billions from the US, these results would not have been possible.
