Oh definitely! Especially those of us from Wisconsin, Vermont and California, lol! But the rest of us are just as bad, by extension. ๐

Some of the American accents get to me.
I was at a travel agent with my sister inlaw in Miami and this guy talked so loud I got a headache, she said he was a New Yorker and they talk loud LOL
Also some women have a sort of back throated growl in their voice.
I bet my accent would make them wince LOL

Years ago - my first venture into a pharmacy in LA - I asked - ' May I have a box of tissues - please '.
Lady behind the counter ' excuse me '.
I repeated my request.
Again ' excuse me '.
I said to her - ' do you understand what I am saying '.
She said - ' of course - I just like to hear you speak '.

When daughter went to Hawaii, she got sick of people just asking her to speak, just so they could hear the Aussie accent. So she went into 'American soccer momspeak'
She does it so well, and they didn't know the difference. hahaha

I was at the Houston Airport on a stop over, I was in the smoking area and husband was looking around the shops.
Started talking to a guy from Colorado, he had the cowboy hat and the silver buckle on his Jeans and he called me Ma'am.
Next thing Husband by my side, dont think he liked me talking to the cowboy LOl well he was so cute.
I like the southern accent it is softer

My aunt went to America for a holiday (must have been back in the 60s) and her broad Aussie accent had the Americans entranced. They were always asking her to 'say something'. Mind you, this was balanced by a few Americans who possibly confused Australia with Austria and marvelled that she even spoke English!
She was also taken aside by some white American women at a laundromat which was apparently segregated to white and black areas, and my aunt had struck up a conversation with an African American woman which was not allowed.
